I had accidentally left one of my eGo batteries on the charger overnight, and after using it for 10-15 mins the LED no longer lights up, and it won't turn off. An atty will fire up as soon as it's screwed onto the battery.

I did a search, and saw that other people have had this issue with various other batteries. I didn't see any solution, however.

So, a few questions. First of all, am I just totally out of luck? Any way anyone has found to fix this problem?

Second question, is this battery safe? If I just leave it alone, will it vent or catch fire or anything? Is it safe to continue using, by just unscrewing the atty as to turn it "off"

And last question, do you think this was caused by leaving it on the charger overnight? Is it possible there is something wrong with the charger, and I might screw up my other battery by using it?

Thanks in advance for any help, I'm pretty bummed out, I guess I'll shoot madvapes an E-Mail and see if I can get a replacement.

First check the threads (both sides) for any liquid, and run a point of tissue around in that circular valley between the post of the battery and the threaded cowl. And make sure there is no liquid in the battery charger.

But that does not sound good. This is a manual battery right? Contact Madvapes. Take the atty off. Personally I would not buy an Ego from Madvapes. It's not a real Joye Ego - it's some clone. next time I recommend you buy real Joye brand from Liberty-Flights.com

Manual battery, yes, I should have specified.

Yeah it's not a genuine eGo, it's a "Smoke Tech" brand. I've been extremely happy with it, but I guess it's just one of those things. Everything has a failure rate, I just got unlucky.

It has a 30 day warranty so I'm assuming MadVapes will replace it. I'm mainly worried about the thing blowing up or something, I know lithium batteries can be pretty dangerous. I'll just keep it in a metal lock-box to be safe.

OK, so this is extremely odd.

Is it possible for something to be wrong with an Atomizer, and cause this damage to the battery?

I ask, because I was using a regular 510 atty on the battery before it got messed up. I usually use EMDCCs, but wanted to use some Kona Mocha I have, and didn't want to gunk up the cartos with such a dark juice.

Anyway, so I went back to some EMDCCs, and then just now used the atty with the "good" battery. It started doing the same thing! The battery wouldn't turn off, and the LED under the button wouldn't light up. I immediately removed the atty, and was worried that this second battery was toast. I threw a carto on there, and it's working fine (for now)

This is a de-bridged atty, I don't see why that would matter, but I figured I'd give all the info possible. I can check out the coil and everything pretty easily, and nothing seems out of place or anything. No little chunks of the nickle-foam stuff sitting on the coil or anything.

So what could the problem be? Could the resistance have somehow "magically" lowered itself and draw too much current? That's really the only thing I could imagine that would cause this specific atty to cause problems, but it doesn't seem too likely.

I don't want to try this atty again to make sure it is the atty, after that little scare. It's possible the button just got stuck or something, I'm not sure.

So has anyone had an atty cause problems with their batteries?

psht, I use eGos from madvapes, granted they come from Smok, but I've had no problems with em, other than the connection being a little short, but it's nothing to cry over...

I'm definitely not blaming MV, it worked great when I got it, there wasn't any way for them to know this would happen. Things break, that's life.

So any input on if this thing in dangerous? I've got it sitting in an aluminum watter bottle because I'm worrying about some of the more extreme battery "failures" that I've seen here on ECF ;)

It sounds to me like the MOSFET is fried on both batteries. Usually caused by LR attys or cartos. Ego type batteries are especially vulnerable with LR attys and cartos below 2.0 ohms.

Probably in your case tho, the atty has gone bad. Don't try it on any more batteries, just toss it.

I don't think the battery is dangerous at this point as long as there is nothing screwed on to it. But more than likely, it will never work right again. The electronics are messed up.

Call MV for return or disposal intstructions.

BTW, if you have a digital multimeter, or even an analog multimeter, try checking the resistance on the 510 atty and compare it to the EMDCC resistance.

Well, I am thinking it's the charger that's screwing up the batteries.

I just took my "good" battery off the charger, after it sat on there for longer than usual, and the light never turned to green. As I moved the battery towards my face to screw a carto on it, I was greeted with that familiar burning plastic or electronics smell.

Screwed a carto on there, pressed the button, no LED. There was a sizzling sound, though, and now this battery is doing the same exact thing as the other one, constantly on, with no LED.

So I'm pretty sure it's the charger, as these problems came about after taking the batteries off the charger.

That's just great, the only two batteries I have are trashed, I have no backup, and I'm broke. Hopefully madvapes will replace both batteries and the charger, because if it is the charger causing the problem as I suspect, I'll just ruin whatever new batteries I get.

I already opened a ticket on their website for the single battery, I don't know if I should open a new one for the charger and the other battery, or just wait for a reply from MV and tell them then.

That stinks, UncleChuck. It's certainly been experienced by many ego/808/etc owners in this forum. Chargers can definitely destroy batteries.

MV states they have a 30 day warranty on the batteries and charger, and judging by your join date I'm guessing you're barely beyond that. I would definitely get a hold of them though. I imagine most vendors get credit back for faulty products that are almost new, so a good vendor that wants to keep a new customer should be readily able to assist you.

Good luck.

Your battery charger sounds as if it's killing the mosfet switches. Get new batteries and charger.

    in a cave, eh?
joyetech and smoktech are headquartered in the same city in china. so chances are the parts used for the assembly of the different ecigs comes from the same manufacturer. And it sounds like you have an atty problem.

There are several manufacturers located in Shenzhen, China. They are not sharing parts. There are, however, some manufacturers cloning Joye parts. And they're generally less reliable than the Joye originals.

Slightly off topic, but SmokTech is a good manufacturer for dual coil cartomizers. And their E-Power kit is a good one. If there are problems with the power switch; that part is easily replaceable.

That's just great, the only two batteries I have are trashed, I have no backup, and I'm broke. Hopefully madvapes will replace both batteries and the charger, because if it is the charger causing the problem as I suspect, I'll just ruin whatever new batteries I get.

Good luck getting your issue resolved. You might want to check out the Pay It Forward section (Social Group Forums). Someone here may be able to help you out cheaply if MadVapes won't replace your stuff.

    Good luck.

I ordered it on the 9th, so I'm (luckily) still within the 30 day limit. A friend actually bought it for me for my 24th birthday, and she said she wanted to take care of it, so she's going to call them tomorrow I guess. Bit of stress off me since I don't have to take care of it now, still kind of a bummer though. She's good at getting what she wants, so I'm sure it will all work out fine.

I've got the insurance guy coming out to my house tomorrow because I got rear-ended last week, nothing serious so I'm just going to take the money, fix it myself, and then use the money to buy Juice with heh heh. Maybe a cheap back-up unit in case something like this happens in the future, as well.

Thanks for all the replies guys (and maybe gals) I appreciate it.

I just had a EGO W tank-carto destroy two batteries. The carto went to 1.4 ohms [normal is about 3 ohms], this caused the blue led light to go on and stay on and the carto got really hot. I connected the second battery [big mistake] and the same thing happened so I now have two fried batteries. The tank units also have severe cracks and leakage which may have led to the electrical failure. Evidently they cracked when in my pocket and got too much bending stress. So at this point I have a totally useless system which worked fantastic when it was new. If you get this system, be sure the assembled units do not get bent. Filling the units is difficult, it requires a small hypodermic, like 2 cc, and a lot of thumb pressure. Hope you have better luck than I did but when it works it is fantastic.
