Hi all. Need a little help here. I filled a new mega carto up and it seems to be a dud. It doesn't want to fire, I guess. These do work on the Riva, right? Thinking it was a dud I tried another mega carto (empty). I tried to fire that one (very briefly since it was dry) and did not notice that one igniting either. Not wanting to waste the juice I stuck the syringe back in the first one and tried to recover it. To my surprise I was not able to pull any out of the carto? It's almost as if there were no juice in it at all! Any idea on how to recover this juice? Not sure what the issue is with these Mega cartos, but so far I am not impressed.

I can confirm that the mega carto's do work on the riva just as well as the ego, so there is a possibility you got a dud.

As to getting the liquid out, the only method that works for me is to cut a 15ml or larger plastic dripper bottle in half, set the battery end in the bottom part of the 1/2 bottle, then put the whole thing into a drawstring battery bag, then spin it like mad for a while. You can usually get about 3/4 or of the liquid out this way.

I also use this trick to clean them by flushing hot water through and then spin-drying them this way..

I'll give that a shot when I get back home, Kent! As always, you and the rest of the carto crew are a great help in pointing us in the right direction. Much appreciated. Hope it works.

I had one that didn't reach the center post and another that ended up 'sideways' to the button and the staple mod fixed both. A bit of a hassle when you go to remove it - that staple is small. But really since you don't have to remove to fill it's a good fix. Make sure you keep it on the center post of the carto and not breach to the outside ring or you could short it out. A couple of needle nose pliers to bend and a small tin snip helps :) There should be a better way, but haven't seen one yet.

Juice recovery is a breeze using a reverse Taryn spin. Just put a cap/condom on the mouthpiece end (with the cap removed), attach your spin device (I use a Bulldog clip on a string) and spin away. Leave the condom far enough off the end of the carto to fill with juice.

You'll get nearly 100% of any juice recovered. I use it whenever a carto dies after I've filled it.
