Ego Mod 18650 V2 unregulated question.

I just picked up a Unregulated EGO-T mod, I am new to vapeing. But not new to flashlights and 18650 batteries. I have lots of batteries of all styles and some decent chargers. So when I seen the ego at a local store in Stillwater, OK I knew I had to have one.

After getting home the first thing I did was pull a fresh battery out of my best flashlight, which happens to be a Panasonic 18650a pulled from an old laptop battery, these are unprotected cells, that I don't recommend to the faint of heart or the technologically challenged .

I also picked up a few clearos to try out. A mini nova kit, a spitfire

Now here is my question. The Ego has an unregulated mode which puts out around 4.0-4.2

I am trying to figure out what OHM coil I should be running while in unregulated mode. My favorite juices are tobacco Turkish and camel flavors, the salesman "told" me that I should use a 3.0 ohm, But I like to understand "why" things work. What is really going on here when people use higher voltages and different impedance(ohm). coils?

Any hints so I can understand why I person would want to change Voltages and coils.
I want to place an order for some different coils but want to u destined it first,

I tried to answer my own question. Using an Ohms law Internet calculator.

Let's look at some calculations below,
4.1 volts, Unregulated 18650 battery Using a 3ohm coil. = 5.6 watts.
3.3 volts, regulated 18650 battery Using a 3ohm coil. = 3.6 watts

4.1 volts, Unregulated 18650 battery Using a 1.4ohm coil. = 12 watts
3.3 volts, regulated 18650 battery Using a 1.4ohm coil. = 7.7 watts

4.1 volts, Unregulated 18650 battery Using a 2.4ohm coil. = 7.0 watts
3.3 volts, Regulated 18650 battery Using a 2.4ohm coil. = 4.5 watts

We all know that more power(watts) = a hotter coil which is gong to burn hotter. Is that what you want?

With the above figures, I don't see why you would want to go with a higher voltage and a higher ohm coil.

I doubt that an unregulated ego will put out 4.0 - 4.2 volts. More like 3.7v. And even if it did, it won't stay at that level very long. A 3.0 ohm coil at 3.7 volts will provide a cold vape. Many long time vapers prefer 4.3 - 5.0 volts when using a 3.0 ohm resistence so as to have a warm vape.

Sidmind, is your unit a passthrough? Mine is, and when it's plugged in and on unregulated mode, It is definitely a warmer vape than my 3.7 regulated Egos. It is listed as putting out 4.15 in unregulated mode. I do wish I had a voltage tester, all I can do is make educated guesses based on the specs. I'm using a Ego-T 2 upgrade passthrough. I prefer 2-2.5 ohm carts and coils, 3 ohms is a little to cool, even for me.

scharph is right - with an eGo-t (or eGo-c) upgrade passthrough staying hooked up, you can maintain the 4.0v. The regular non-passthrough eGo-t or eGo-c upgrade batt will run in the non-regulated mode like any other 3.7v batt - starting out at 4.1v and going to 3.6-3.7v for most of the charge falling off to 3.2v at the end.

Assuming you have the eGo-t Mod that takes the 18650 batt - you'll be vaping with that latter description - mostly around 3.6-3.7volts.

Here's a good chart to go by as to what ohms to match it up with:

With that mod - you might try the Kanger T3 with a 1.8Ω coil for the stronger flavors, 2.2Ω for the lighter flavors. Here:

Tabac BCC = Kanger T3... They come with the 1.8Ω coil and the coil unit is easily changeable to where you can replace the 1.8ohm coil cheaply or substitute another ohm'd coil for lighter flavors... I've found the 1.5 is a bit hot and the 2.6 coils is too cool even for my light flavors. but ymmv...

I use the ego-t 18650 mod as my daily. I build my Evod heads to ~ 2.0 oHm and they give a wonderful vape.

Remember lower oHm's = more vaper and shorter battery life.
