Mostly using SS coils in them with 27 awg wire at around .6 ohm. Use temp control at 220C and limit the wattage in TC mode to 18. No way these coils could take anything close to 40 watts.

Never tried a coil in one that could take that kind of wattage but would be worried about melting the insulator at that kind of wattage.

Thanks all so far. I have the 0.5 Ohm coils because of the better airflow. I'm using the Tron (that I'd almost given up on). The coils I'm putting in tonight/tomorrow are 0.30-ish (just measured one).

The stock Kanthal is fine at 20-ish Watts for my store-bought juice (MBV Banana Nut Bread). That's not gonna do for my DIY PB n' Choklit or my DIY coffee. Both of those are max VG. I got accustomed to high VG liquids ca. 2013 because it let me up the nicotine level and I've been a high VG user ever since.

Same insulator in the .5 ohm clrs so still might melt on you. Definitely make sure there aren't any hot legs on it.

If you don't want to use your Subtank minis for that kind of wattage. The Coppervape Skyline clone is a great RTA that could take the higher wattage and tastes great. Cheap too at around $18.

Just out of curiosity, what wattage are y'all vaping these coils in Joyetech tanks?

I have some juice flavors with a sweet spot just shy of 40 Watts, but I can't seem to get above 30-ish without warning
hits.

I have some beautiful SS316 Claptons (26/36awg, 4 wraps, 2mm ID ~.35 Ohms) wrapped by a master coil builder in Florida that do TC well. I might try one of those while Nate does his thing this weekend.

Another tootle puffer here. Wattage mode, 'round 11w.

I'm still learnin' how to vape.

Joyetech lists the wattage on the pre-built clr coils as:

Working wattage(0.5ohm): 20-35W
Working wattage(1.0ohm): 10-20W

But you know manufacturer ratings are bogus....

The titanium ones they rate at 350 to 400F with a summit wattage of 60W....Guessing summit wattage is max ramp up for TC.

I tried the titanium coils because they were being sold for $2 a 5 pack. Decent coils but not taking much wattage either really

I'm hoping one of those Clapton SS coils let me get above 30. Clapton's have a longer initial heat up time, but I'm about to find out whether the compact size negates some or all of that advantage.

I haven't tried the Titanium coils that came with the Trons, but I have tried the Ni200's. Mehh... not bad but not great. They hit protection almost immediately.

I wouldn't buy more of the Titanium, I really just got them because they were really cheap and came with the CLR shell which I could reuse.

The titanium and nickel coils that were regular coils and not clr that came with the tanks, I just took apart and kept the insulator and center pin for backup parts. Not able to use nickel as I have a slight allergy to it and it might cause me issues.

Those must be some tiny clapton coils to fit in the clr shell. Do they leave enough room for good air flow?

They are small. Just eyeballing them, but they're nearly identical to the factory wrap. I'll take a pic when I'm done and post it later tonite. I can't wait until tomorrow.

I lack patience and discipline.

All done, and that was quick, even with one hand tied behind my back. Here's the first of 10 Claptons I bought last month right after trimming the tails on the .... of the coil head.
Clapton in CLR80.jpg

I was a little worried about the fit, but that disappeared when I pulled out the old coil and looked at the two together. I forgot to take a pic of that. :(

Here we are, all wicked up and ready to test. My Ohmmeter is a little screwy (i.e., ancient).

Clapton in CLR Wicked80.jpg

Locked the coil resistance at 0.42. Set temp to 300 F. Initial wattage at 18.

Mash the button and... Weak.

Initial wattage upped to 25. Temp at 300. Mash again and Mmm. Better.

I think I'll leave it there for the night and find something else to vape at bedtime.

The airflow in the Tron is... not good for sub-Ohm work. It's crowded in the CLR can, but there's no added restriction.

SS316, 2mm ID, 26/36 AWG, 4 wraps. PM me for contact info for the lady who builds them. They are really nice.

I am respectfully posting disagreement with your post, as soon it may be required, so I'm practicing. ;)

You do know how to vape.

It's easy, remember?

  • Push button
  • Inhale
  • Grunt or say "Ahhhhhh"

Your faithful TPuffer who loves the 8.5 to 10ish range.

Update on those $2 Evic minis. Shipping/tracking emails began arriving this morning. Looks like the deal is legit.
Yes got shipping notice yesterday on them. They have come thru many times for me with $2 stuff.

@DPLongo22, I'll make you a deal. First team that scores wins, and we'll all go home. Problem is, it could still be a long day with Cutler and Matt Kassel playing QB.

LOL! I was thinking about you yesterday, Mike. I saw some idiot trying to sell the idea that Cutler would be a good fantasy investment (I got bored with FF after about 15 years of it, so this is my first year free & clear).

Cutler. Seriously? Even if someone caught lightening in a bottle, and he some managed to actually have a good day, the idea that it's a sound & advisable move is immeasurably beyond any rationale thought.

It should be an "interesting" game, to say the least. My money would be on your Titans though, with a gun to my head.

Popcorn? :pop: :pop: ;)

I expect the Titans to run the ball about 90 percent of the time, then let Kassel throw it about four yards to Delaney Walker (if he promises not to throw it with his eyes closed).

Well, THAT wouldn't be fair! He should be restricted to the same standards of expectation as Cutler!!!

Close 'em up.
