Ego passtrough?

It is the same thing. I have been using my ego-t atty at 12.7 watts and 4.8 volts for around 3-4 weeks and it has been working great with no problems yet mind you that atty no longer works well on an ego batt.
You are correct.. The eGO PT is simply charging the battery while you vape, the battery runs the atomizer.
I personally don't use mine as much as I thought I would of since I bought five of them in january and have only opened 1 of them and very rarely ever use that one at all let alone as a passthrough.
I dropped mine once and now it doesn't charge through the usb plug. the usb makes it a little bigger than a standard 650, almost half an inch longer
I have two in constant cycle. Not really used as a PT anymore, but still offers a handy way to charge. A friend of mine dropped my eGo-pt and dented the end cap up, still charges and lights up fine however.
If it ever stopped charging through the USB, you could always purchase the 510 extender for a few bucks and charge it off of a 510 charger. The output is 4.2volts but the amperage is a bit lower at 150mA, might take a bit longer to charge as I believe a USB port puts out approx 500mA (unverified).

it was my 3rd ego battery so I have a charger, just wanted to give my heads up. may have been fluke, maybe not. my others have survived countless drops. just a casualty of what I do for a living. I climb in and out of vehicles all day
my ego passthrough also broke, but luckily you can still charge it using a regular charger
