I've been using the same tank cartridge for better than three weeks, and this afternoon I took a nice long pull on it. As I inhaled, the Plastic "tip" insert slipped right out and was sucked into my throat where if became lodged in my wind pipe. Fortunately I was able to gently caugh it loose but it was a real bear to get back up into my mouth without it slipping back as I inhaled.

This is a really painful situation as it is happening and afterwards as well. It is also a potentially life-threating situation. While it is not large enough to block the windpipe entirely, as it was back there I could feel my throat closing up, who knows what would happen if this bit of plastic slid down any further.

Be aware... this seems like a problem that can happen without notice, as it happened to me. It is a shocking feeling, and the instinct to GASP for air when it happens will most likely pull it down further.

I remove my tips. Not only do you remove the choking hazard, it also gives a slightly improved flavor and TH.

You should know that there's ANOTHER piece of plastic under that as well, a baffle, that needs to be removed for the same reason.

If you don't want to remove the tip, try not biting down on it at all, as that can work it loose. Also, if you remove the tip, then remove the baffle, and reinsert the tip, you can push the tip down a bit further for a "tighter" fit.

I just went to remove mine by gently biting down about 1/4in down from the tip and they all just popped right into my mouth, had I not be prepared for it to be doing this, I could see it being a real danger if someone accidentally bit down just hard enough to cause the insert to fly into their throat, unexpected, as it happened to you. Not at all a good thing. Thanks for sharing your experience Zen~

Yeah, it can really freak you out if you aren't aware that it may happen.

I've removed the caps from all of mine, and it really does seem to improve the flavor as well. It makes me wonder why they bothered with the cap in the first place.
