Just for safety's sake, I do recommend charging any batteries on a flame-resistant surface. For example:

Statistically, most battery incidents occur while they are charging. Ego batteries are Li-Poly in chemistry, which are not safe chemistry (meaning they can vent into flames when they go into thermal runaway). Although there are protection circuits installed in the battery & charger, electrical components can always fail. That's not worth loosing a home or a life.

Baditude is the go to for battery questions. I charge mine on a marble counter top and only when I am near it. I tend to touch it occasionally to see if it is getting too hot but that is just me being paranoid.
Same!!! I use to gently touch it, but stays cold in the charging cycle, that is good to go. Cheers and be safe!
