I've heard people say they are. I don't know if this is entirely true. I know that the genuine egos have the PCM chip that keeps the voltage at a steady 3.3/3.4ish rate until the battery is dead, whereas the knockoffs don't have that chip and the voltage will continually drop as the battery loses it's charge. Other than that, I do believe they're identical. It's only the internal components that could possibly differ.

Joye or Janty Ego is real original Ego

Most things just called Ego are clones and some are good and some are not

My guess is TW's could be a clone because the slim 510 I got there did not have a Joye atty (from the looks of the inside I would guess it was SLB). TW also included the incorrect cartridges in my 510 kit (mega ones), and as I found out after it damaged 5 510 batteries, they also gave me the wrong charger cable (a 420mA output Ego-type cable). So 4 hardware items in the kit (battery, atty, charger, carts) and 2 were wrong.

I recommend for your first Ego you buy real Joye or Janty (Joye is what you will mostly find in the US) - see Liberty-Flights.com (press the 20% off first, upper left front page) and Cignot.com for example.

I guess this is what happens when companies start throwing spare parts together and calling them a "kit" instead of buying them that way from the factory.
