Apologies if this has been asked before, but "eGo XL" doesn't come up with many results in this forum.

I've been using Fluval in the 510 carts with great success. But the 510 carts have the benefit of a small amount of liquid with a comparatively light weight in a small space to allow liquid to stay trapped in the foam's galleries. The problem is, Fluval doesn't scale well at all; when I put some Fluval in the XL cart (well compressed) and filled it up, the additional weight of that much liquid just caused it to leak right out -- literally dripping out without any coaxing on my part. So, Fluval is right out.

Is the blue Marineland foam different in any way that would make it work here? I'm using the regular polyfill for now 'til I can find a better material.

I use the eGo Mega Cartridge with the Mega Atty. They claim 2.5 and some 3.0ml of liquid. The XL's say 2.0 ml. I use both Fluval and Blue foam and haven't experienced leaking. Weather I pack it or loosely cut it, it works the same for me. Perhaps there is a problem with your carts. Does all your XL carts leak?
When I cut my filler I either cut it in a "V" shape or a "T" shape. Thick on top and narrower leading into the cart for wicking.

By accident I've ended up with both the Mega atty and carts, and the XL atty and carts. The Megas are basically just longer versions of the regular 510s; I found they didn't work well at all, at least not with the Fluval; it seemed like the liquid was getting vacuum locked in the bottom or something. The XL is working a lot better though; more surface area, larger atty wick, more vapour. But the filler still isn't the greatest, though gravity seems to help the larger volume of liquid gravitate to the opening when I stand the eGo on end when it starts drying out at the top.

I only just got the XL today so I'm basically experimenting at this point. But I wanted to ask before I messed around too much because I didn't want to waste too much liquid on failed experiments.

How large you cut the Fluval for it to work? I tried cutting a piece roughly 2x the diameter of the XL cart, then rolling it between my fingers to stuff into the cart, but it was leak city that way. Should I be cutting even larger and compressing more?

I use the standard cart filler that came with the carts. Leaks occasionally, usually wicks well though. I haven't had luck w/ cart fillers that worked on 510 carts at all.

Fluval worked for me. The trick is getting the right-sized cube and compression ratio so that it still leaves enough room for liquid without making the galleries so large that they leak.

I don't use fluval in 510s, and the factory XL filler works fine, 90% of the time for me. I was only trying to mod a couple empty carts that came w/ the attys.(turned them into drip tips instead).

You must need a large straw for the XLs.

I tried the ZFM with the 510s but it failed miserably. I likely messed it up in some way. I'll have to pick up the blue foam and see if that works better than the Fluval. My main obstacle seems to be the indents in the cart; unless it's compressed a good amount, foam still tends to leave either empty or low-density areas in those nooks around the indent that can let loose liquid escape. Well, with Fluval anyway, as that's a very stiff foam that doesn't fill the corners of odd shapes well. Perhaps the blue foam will work better. I'll drop by the pet store after work today and pick up a pack.

I have to say though that so far the basic polyfill is working better in the XLs than it did in the 510s -- as long as I periodically let gravity help wick the liquid to the top.

I was wondering if that would work. I've used that on my 510 carts. Will try that out when my mega atty and carts arrive.

Best, using blue foam, I've found is the method (can't remember the post I read it in) of using a long strip (just shorter than the battery, IRCC) loosely wrapped (should be just larger than the cart opening) and slide in.

Here's what I'm using now: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/cartridge-mods/122373-zfmxl-zfm-version-ego-xl-atty.html

I never tried a bigger piece of blue foam because the plug did work.

I do have a spare silicone spatula that I can play with. What fun! Thanks!

I use the blue aquarium foam with the straw and it works better to me than the original filler as long as you do it right

same here. i make little BFDs, and when built properly for juice viscosity, they work way better than stock. on thick liquids ill even use a double rolled and frayed PBT mod for maximum flavor. usually i just drip tho. :vapor:

im REALLY curious about these; especially at $9.00 and i also like their tobacco, rum, and cream flavors... i see an order in my future.
