It recently came up that Flavor West has been misleading customers about possible harmful ingredients in their flavors. I recently discovered that Wizard Labs has done same. Am thinking maybe a thread about this potential hazard will be worthwhile.

----------------------------------------------

Here is an example of what I;m talking about with Wizard Labs specifically (seems the Flavor West fiasco is much worse):

Except where noted, all of our concentrated liquid flavorings are made using FDA approved food flavoring ingredients, are water-soluble, and contain no diacetyl or related compounds
Concentrated Marshmallow flavoring by The Flavor Apprentice. Marshmallow concentrated flavoring is FDA approved for use in food, beverages, and products for human consumption. A light, sweet marshmallow - good for blending with other flavors.

Ingredients: Natural Flavors, Propylene Glycol

All Wizard Labs flavor concentrates are undiluted, full strength concentrates from the manufacturer, and contain no Diacetyl.
Recommended usage is to test at 5% flavoring in your solution, and adjust to taste.

Marshmallow Flavor (TFA)

TFA said:

*** Note: This flavor contains 'custard' ingredients: Acetoin.
The following link explains the frequent questions & concerns involving custard notes.

And I initially bought it with the understanding that it wouldn't have a "related compound", especially one that becomes Diacetyl when it simply oxidizes (loses a single hydrogen).

Now I can't trust that any of the flavors I got from them, some from producers far less transparent than TFA, don't include known health hazards.
Is a shame, honestly.

So, I suppose, if you notice other vendors doing something similar, post it here.

Yes, I noticed this too, but I usually by from TPA directly soi I can read the descriptions carefully.

Some juice vendors buy flavorings from x, y, or z, who, in turn, are made by a, b, or c.

And some won't even reveal their flavoring sources...

Really difficult to find clean flavorings IMO.
I think this is why many have switched to unflavored, just to play it safe.

I have to assume that the same flavors listed by TPA as having "custard notes", etc., are also the same type flavorings by other makers.

Butters, Creams, some Vanillas, Custards, Marshmallows, Caramels, Butterscotch, etc.

About 1/3 of my flavorings are on the "bad" list, and now I'm switching to more fruit or tobacco flavors.
FA is working harder to test all the flavorings they sell, I just think most of them have too much food coloring, as most are very dark.

At first I was real upset about that too. (doesn't look like I would since I smokes for 40+ years and never gave it a thought) I have got into a lot of DIY and I have even written to vendors to ask them if this is in their flavorings. Now are they telling me the truth? I sure hope so. I have been using Vaping Zone super concentrated flavorings and their gourmet flavorings. I have been so pleased with everything I have tried so far and they are one of the vendors that I wrote too. Good luck to you. :)

Nothing as harmful to the human lungs as SMOKE
U sure about that?

But, regardless, this is an expected and completely useless response. Misses the point entirely. The point is about transparency and the ability of people to know what is in their juice. This is the vape community, and it presently has a level of opacity Monsanto and industrial farmers, and the combined Bush/Obama admin, could only dream of.

We celebrate our "freedom" from smokes, from large interests and evil tobacco corps, the ability to do it ourselves on almost every level... yet in the end there are like 3 places in the entire internets that you can trust to tell you the truth about what's in their juice and flavors.

hate to be the bearer of bad news but....

"If you mean Vaping Zone...yes, there are harmful chemicals. The SC Gourmet line has MANY flavors that contain diacetyl - and this information is freely available, yet Vaping Zone continues to NOT disclose this to buyers. No one seems to be able to find out the source of the SC line - but if VZ doesn't disclose it in their SC Gourmet line...?...then at the very least, we can't assume they'll disclose it in any 'line' they sell."

"Many of the VZ SC Gourmet line contains DIACETYL!

Direct link to Baker Flavors 2010 data on their Russian site listing flavors containing diacetyl (via Google Translate) Flavors containing diacetyl

I emailed Baker Flavors for an updated list, and this is the response:

To update whole list of our flavors for diacetyl content we need to check all recipes of flavorings and it will take some time.
But we can give you an idea how to know what kind of flavoring can contain diacetyl.
Usually, diacetyl can be contained in milk-cream flavors, such as: "cream-liquor", "tiramisu", "cakes", "biscuit", "Irish cream" and so on.
Significant amount of diacetyl is containted in the next flavorings: "Milk", "Cheese", "Cheese Cake", "Butter" and so on."
