Ejuice bad taste

Hi I'm mainly posting to get past the five required to post elsewhere. In my last New Member post I was wondering why I was getting a really bad aftertaste. Today I went back to the local vape store and got an Aspire Nautilus Mini with BVC coils along with new watermelon ejuice 50/50 with 12mg nicotine. I said in my last post that I bought a new Smart-20 vg/vw mod which is a clone of the iLeaf iStick. The new tank and mod are awesome. The ejuice is awful. I don't really know why because it's the same flavor and less nicotine. My first ejuice experience with this store was amazing so I'm very confused as to why I am getting this nasty taste that is extremely difficult to describe. I saw a post on here that talked about a persons experience with bad aftertaste ejuices and they have concluded that it is an issue with the base of the flavoring. I am leaning towards this explanation because I have ruled out PG vs VG, mod, tank, priming, atomizer, and the voltage vs wattage. The suggestion in the post I was reading was to try ElectronicStix because that is what was the best after a very long search. So I am going to try them as well as the company I used in Arizona which had no flavor but no aftertaste. I hope I'm allowed to add that store previously mentioned. From the post I was reading it seems there is a minority of us who are unable to use most ejuices because of the flavoring's base. The post and most replies described the aftertaste as alcohol or liqueur or even perfume but I'm not ready to go there yet. My only word is: YUCK. I would describe the taste as metallic. I may have to use a nicotine patch until my new ejuice arrives because as one replyer noted, "not even mouthwash gets the taste out." I hope this post will help someone else because the whole ecig experience is tough let alone dealing with an ejuice sensitivity. If anyone would like the name of the vape store I used in Arizona please message and I will share.

You can get rid of that "alcohol taste" by shaking up your bottles then taking off the top for an hour or two. Do this a couple of times each day for several days and the alcohol will evaporate.

That perfumey aroma/taste comes from a synthetic flavour called rhodinol, which was isolated from rose oil. It used to be added a lot to flavours like Camel tobacco in order to give an oriental tobacco top note - or that was the idea. Dekang started that trend by using it and then publishing the list of flavourings on the bottle, so others picked up on it, thinking it was a good idea.

I don't encounter either of these anymore as the juice I use has neither of these.

Sometimes, if it is a truly dreadful taste such as you are describing, the culprit is manufacturing residues in either the tank, wicking material or wire.

I normally prewash any new tank I get. If there is a bad taste after that, I soak the head (coil) in pure grain alcohol or vodka for about 15 minutes or longer. Rinse it with water, give it a shake and let it dry overnight.

Good luck and let us know how you make out!

I agree with all of the advice already given, but wanted to add my early experience regarding bad tasting juice ...

I bought from a local vape shop, who makes their own juice at another location. I fell in love with one of the first few flavors I tried. 2nd bottle was good. 3rd bottle was nasty.

I contacted the owner and she told me they had hired some new people in the lab who must have made a mistake. I ended up exchanging the bad bottle for 2 older bottles (before the new employees supposedly) - one higher and one lower nic, since they didn't have my nic level, and I took them home and mixed them. Nope - different, but still nasty. She also gave me a bottle from a brand new batch - this one was better, but still not the same as the first 2 bottles.

Before it was all said and done, I ended up with half a dozen or so bottles of this particular flavor, and most of them were nasty, the rest still weren't that great flavor I had fallen in love with.

It could be mixed wrong or one (or more) ingredients have passed its shelf life.

And if that's not enough variables... I've had days where my taste buds were just "off".

Whatever it is, good luck nailing it down and getting it addressed!

Thank you all!
Susan: I shook my bottle and will let it sit for a couple hours. Also, I have been reading up on Rhodinol and I'm even more certain it is this additive. Tobacco companies even add it to real cigarettes. If you could message me with some company names that don't use Rhodinol I would greatly appreciate it! Even if it's international shipping.
As for the manufacturing residues, I too thought that maybe these Chinese parts, the coils, the tank, etc but I washed the parts and primed the coil. I really think it's some sort of flavoring base or small additive that I'm sensitive topic.
All I can think right now is how back when I smoked tobacco and I would try a Camel, and I would get a bad bitter taste, yeah that's this taste.
Thanks all again.

Hey KattMamma!
The only other possibility I have is the mixing. Ok. I left this possibility out for a reason because you all may cringe at what I will describe. The store in Arizona did their mixing behind closed doors while you waited. This store (I live in a very unpopulated state) and they do the mixing in front of you. I don't believe this process is very...professional? But they basically use "lab type" bottles with the long nozzle to add the PG/VG and they use regular squirt bottles for the nicotine. I can't remember what was used for the flavoring. But to be honest I don't think it's the PG/VG mixes as I have tried different proportions from them. At the most it would be too much nicotine but they would be losing money.

Actually, mixing there in the store is pretty common - not sure how "professional" it is. I always worry that the "sales clerk" might not measure as carefully as someone who works in a lab doing nothing else all day. That said, of the ones I've visited that mixed on-site, I prefer the ones where I can actually see what they're doing, as opposed to the ones that disappear into a back room.

Also, I've learned the hard way - flavors that taste great when mixed correctly can taste awful if you overdo it. So it could be as simple as they just put too much in there.

Ahlusion is my go-to vendor to juice (although I DIY as well). Nicoticket is also very good and is known for their tobacco & desert type vapes.

I usually encounter "perfumy vapes" at B&M's that buy their juice/base elsewhere (i.e they aren't selling another vendors brand of juice).

Check out this list of some of the most popular threads in the General E-Liquid Discussion Forum. I'd be willing to bet that these vendors are not using rhidonil. Yes Happy, I too suffer from a problem with artificial ingredients in commercial vape juice. Sucralose especially. You might want to try Virgin Vapor or another all natural ejuice. I am making my own from 50/50 and all natural not additive flavors I bought on the web. Those who do not have this problem with the artificial ingredients do not understand how it is with us with the taste buds that are sensitive to artificial ingredients. My wife is one of those, it took me a LONG time to convince here that Nutrasweet left a horrible taste in my mouth for hours. do some googling about sucrlose tasting bad or the "bitter" gene.

Hang in there you can make or find some juice that will make your vaping experience good.

I wish the ejuice companies and flavor companies would list all the ingredients in their products so we could make an informed decision of whether to buy them or not. I blew well over $50 on "bad" juice trying to figure it out.
