I got this from EBay too:) think its from MR WICKS.

So, no torching before use?

Ha, I'm getting mine from Mr wicks as well. He has a good rating so I felt confident. I'm going to try to stick some ss mesh in the hole and of course use it by itself.

I never torch any of my silica. I'm a rebel.

lol, youre a rebel and im too cautious, I just hate when I take the time to build a wick , which is kinda hard for me with my bad hands and I want that first new wick vape to be perfect and free of any "off taste" it just takes the enjoyment down a notch.

Its like that first cup of coffee of the day, it has to be perfect or it just ruins my day.

BTW, love southpark, especially Butters, Tweak and Token.

Part of the reason is I haven't bought a torch yet. I may get one of those windproof lighters.

I can pick up one tomorrow. I'm passing by a mom and pops hardware store that may have one. If it's not too expensive I'll get it.

Ive been using it since last night, so far so good, got a slight off taste for a few puffs, but not overly strong, might just be the kanthal. SO far wicking great. Its nice and neat. Since its a bit more dense, it makes for a thicker area where I wrap my coils. I use an Odysseus and use the one long wick in the channels with the short piece on top. GOing to see if I can use the other silica for the topper , but its no big deal, it performing great.

I will see how it holds up to dry burning and how many times it can be dry burned etc.

I picked up a ten foot length of the 2mm ekowool from Big Tex, and so far it seems pretty good. I've been playing with it in my little cobra clone and it looks like it wicks pretty well. I cut a piece to fit and wrapped just enough 500 ss around the ekowool to get it to slide in and out of the wick hole with slight resistance, once i had the wick done I made a 6/5 28 g kanthal coil ~ 1.2 ohm. I think with a bit more heat, it will vape pretty good, I had to really try to get a dry hit. when I did get one, it didn't taste burnt, it just was dry. Once I get the particulars figured out, I'm going do it for real in my real cobra, but the coil/wick combo in the cobra is working too well to mess with( 55mm X 55mm 500 mesh ss, 3/2 wrap 32 g kanthal).

I'd love to try this. Keep us updated.

Got my ekowool today and working with it has been very frustrating. Wet or dry, as soon as I cut it it starts unraveling like crazy. The Nextel xc-116 doesn't unravel at all.

I built a quick wick for an igo-l and it vapes and tastes fine, but I lost several inches of wick to the unraveling.

Is there a trick to get the ekowool to stay together?

Torching helps...

Also what I do is tape where I plan to cut my length off at, cutting the tape in half leaving some on the piece I plan on coiling and some on the remainder to keep it from unraveling. I cut my length a little long so I can torch between the taped ends and cut off the extra as the last thing I do...

Hope this helps :)

Thanks Uno mas, I just happen to have a torch 5 feet away from me...

It still will want to unravel if handled too much, but IMO it's worth the tiny frustration. If you need to put a bend in the area you torched put a drop or two of juice, PG or VG in that area helps with the stiffness. I have 2mm Ekowool encasing 325 SS mesh in my ZAP's and even submerged after 3 weeks it hasn't unraveled. I believe it's a handling thing ;)
