Ekowool tastes.....buttery. Help please?

I'm having an issue with everything I've put ekowool in: nimbus (.4 ohms), ZAU (1.8), etc.
a weird flavor comes through unless I flood the wick in which case...well...my tongue will recover soon.

I've re-wrapped the coils quite a few times to make sure i'm not choking the wicks and they're uniform and evenly glowing.

Any advice?

not really sure what to say, i use ekowool in all my drippers and i personally love it. works like silica, but seems to wick better and frays less.

did you clean it before putting coils on it? that's the only thing i can really think of...
