Ekowool tastes funny or not wicking right... any help

I've got 1.5mm threaded ekowool and 2mm hollow. I'm trying to figure out how to get my RSST working with that alone or with mesh, got 500 grade mesh to work with.

So I've boiled the stuff for at least 35 mins, did for 15, wrapped the 2mm alone, tasted funny so I boiled longer. Then I tried torching it before use here. It tasted great at first, but now is not so great after awhile. I can taste what seems to be directly from the silica. I thought it was gunna be perfect and it was, but soon after not so great.

What am I doing wrong here. I've heard the ekowool has a very neutral flavor, not at all in my experience thus far. Anyone got advice for this? I'm a little bummed out

I've had similar experiences of ekowool simply not giving good flavor, but I didn't have the patience to try many times! Forget the ekowool and start playing with the mesh. You'll never look back.

I tried ekowool in my Kayfun but the taste was horrible. I'll try boiling it for the next build I guess. Supposedly torching it enough but didn't work for me. Anyway, I wouldn't bother with ekowool in RSST. All of my genesis attys work with mesh alone and the flavor is perfect. It may take you couple of tries to get it wicking right but give it a try. Because the wick hole is bigger than in AGA for example it is much easier to make a good wick. For RSST i usually cut a 40x60mm piece of 400 mesh and it works perfectly with most juices.

I will try cotton. lol I would laugh if that worked really well or something. I'll just get cotton balls, I wonder what kind would be best and where I could get them. I can just use the ones that I have for now.

Also, I'm trying with the 500 mesh I got at kidneypuncher.com, but it tastes kinda funny. I wonder if I'm preping it wrong. I dry burn it to get the coil evenly glowing and fix hot spots. I suppose this step is also oxidizing the wick and or kanthal. Of course I torch it on both sides, but not much more then that after I roll it.
