The thing about the original KFL is I haven't found a flaw. It will not leak, I don't care how you carry it, upside down, sideways, you name it. I've heard folks say the EHPRO clone is pretty decent, I dunno...but it's priced at the $50 mark.

Here's a video from Rip...he can be a sort of an idiot but his builds are solid. He's using 28ga but with 30ga 8-9 wraps on a 5/64 drill bit will put you around 1.8ohms Chimney Micro Coil Build In A Kayfun Lite - YouTube

You need to attach non-resistance wire to the coils.. Your are getting a nasty taste because the wires are getting hot and it is melting the plastic plug insert.

Not getting that taste with the exact same wire using Silica and Cotton so I don't think that's the problem. Thanks though, I appreciate any and all comments.
