Just a suggestion, but I would try using a 5/64" drill bit instead of the 1/16" as it would be just a shadow less than 2mm and should still fit inside the slots. The wider inside diameter will allow you to use more wicking material inside the coil. It should also be a little easier to mount the coil, as the drill bit should not shift around as much when placed in the slot. The slot is actually slightly wider than 2mm, but unfortunately it's the largest metric drill bit that I have and a 3/32" bit is too big. (5/64" = 1.98 mm)

PS: You could also use a multimeter to test the coil - with or without the Evod base -although it's a bit awkward to do at first. There's a vid on youtube somewhere, but just stick the positive lead into the hole of the coil's positive pin and hold the ground to the sidewall of the Evod base.

SD told me she used a 16 gauge needle. I have a 1/16" bit and a LBS would the LBS be closer to 5/64"? I did look up the conversion from SD's 16 gauge to " and it was damn close to 1/16". How about a round wood toothpick?

That's the way I check my Evod coils. Silly me thought if I got a zero Ohms with the GS air in the Evod base, that checking the Ohms with the GS coil on the Evod base wouldn't work either. Not the same measuring the resistance as supplying power I guess.

PS; Your link is dead too. :(

Don't think there is any magic to using 1/16" or 5/64". Use what you want. I think that the bigger bit is easier to handle when inserting the coil. On the other hand, you would use fewer wraps on the larger bit than on the smaller - which may or may not be too few for you to be comfortable with, especially with the thinner 30 gauge wire (I've only used 28 so far). <shrug>

I think that when mounted into the Evod base, the positive pin of the Kanger coil assembly extends a bit further down into the Evod base than the Air coil assembly does. Since the Air coil assembly is shorter, it doesn't doesn't make contact with the positive pin on the mod.

Re: testing with a multimeter: I haven't tried it - I just tested my coils on an Air base - so I guess I should and will later tonight. Don't see why it wouldn't work, though, as the ground should run through the coil's threads into the Evod base...

Funny - I just clicked that link and it worked for me. Try copy and paste the below into a fresh browser window and take out the space between the colon and the double slashes:

You need a full-sized browser window to see the entire chart.

Bruce, I sent you a pad of the same stuff Cheech used. you need to open the pad all the way to one layer and remove the paper insert. cut one whole square (as marked by the folds) away from the unfolded pad. that length will wrap around twice perfectly! count 6 lines from the edge and cut to have the right width.

eta: I would also check your lead lengths and trim them back some- your ohms sound far too high for that many wraps of 30g.. may also explain why you were getting wonky readings.

Wow! Those are very specific and very helpful instructions - y'no; if I ever decide to actually rebuild.

There you go being rude again... lol... :p

I like the clear and detailed instructions.
Cheers
So did I. I did not mean my post as a slam at all. If that's how it came off, let me apologize. :)

Hello all! I have 10 'Air coils out for delivery from rockymountain. :) Just stocking up for parts and they were a good deal so I think I'll be good for a long while, with the additional ammo.
There's no rudeness in here. We're all Airheads!

Is there anyone still in here that I haven't managed to offend?:unsure:

But seriously, you've NEVER been rude! To anyone here! Grammar, Shmammer - WHO CARES!
Sometimes it is hard to interpret feelings in a forum situation -- when the feelings are in writing and you can't see who you're talking to.
I chalk it up to that! :)
