When I lived in the Deeeeep South...Connecticut, I had a herd of 11 of those long-legged rats sleeping in what had been my strawberry patch. According to the local scientific community, the deer population was about twenty times greater than in Colonial days. The problem was that we had killed most of the wolves and coyotes, so the only remaining "natural" predator for Bambi was the motorcar. Each morning I would drive twenty minutes to work on the Merritt Parkway, and usually see eight or ten carcasses, along with many more live browsers on the roadside.Yep... way too much development going on. They have no where else to go now, so they end up on everybody's door step.![]()
Here we have a healthy venison fed coyote population, and deer aren't much of a problem except around dusk in early springtime, when they like to cross the road. I guess they want to buy lottery tickets or lobster rolls or something.
