Oh I agree, I never try to salvage a burnt coil...This was not a burnt coil, more of a dirty sock coil...the 1.5 coil. I have the 1.2 in now and it is coming along gradually.

Maybe it was the silica wicks you tasted? The 1.5 coils have silica wicks with a cotton surround. The 1.2 coils are supposed to have all cotton wicks.
