So a few years ago, the pull-switch for speed control broke on my ceiling fan.
We had an old fan in the garage that I salvaged the 3-speed switch from.
I connected it in, making sure to wire it correctly, but on reassembly, I found I only had two speeds, and no off position.
To be more specific, one position gives me about medium speed, and the other three positions give me only high speed.
At the time, I figured the switch was incompatible with this fan, so I dismissed it since it was working in some fashion. But now I'd really like to get it working again so I can turn the damn thing off without hitting the wall switch, or be able to use the lights with the fan off.
So today I go and buy a switch which I believe is for this type of fan (labeled "dual capacitor" and is the same form factor of the original) and installed it correctly. The problem persists however, and short of replacing the whole fan I am now totally stumped.
Does anyone have any ideas?
