Lol... translator of what?...

Half the time I need my own translator...depends on whether my work brain is firing (the heavy construction worker where finess is applied via sledgehammer and torch) or the geek brain that's into history and mythology, and historical re-enactments, and reading heavily, and old school paper and dice gaming, and math..
you are too young in here to know my personal way of destroying the english langage and I have reduced my post lately, but a few old members can tell you

From an English major of an elite american university.....

#1-He loved LOTR and believes that it is arguably the best example of its form of literature.
#2 He grants that it is exceptionally well crafted and has intellectual roots across a broad spectrum of influences.
#3 Still, it is fantasy in form, structure and execution. To believe otherwise is to not understand the history, structure and meaning of world literature.
His words, not mine. I must live with him---not you!

Lol...oh I agree that it's fantasy in form...but at the same time trancends mere fantasy the way most would recognize it...in the level of detail Tolkein took it to (he invented languages for it, not just language but languages)..and the way it so heavily borrows from different mythologies it really is almost an exercise in ancient theologies...

Lol...I've read backward..I've seen...just saying it depends on which translator you'll get depending on the day, the heavily technical one, the wordy one, or the one that believes the easiest way to fix something is to hit it or burn it...
oh and my un-natural love of the elipsis...

Gotta be honest this was the funnest contest I've been part of so far. Probably because I'm a HUGE fan of the books (not just the trilogy). I can't believe I lost due to not reading directions (missed "The Golden" on Q.2) and getting mixed up with math (like most of the others, it seems).

How many people who entered into the contest have read the silmarilion? Or did a lot of ya just read the appendixes after book 6?

a lot of practices and people's mockery have made me put more attention on my typing I also throw away the gramma corrector it was a hell

What? Who's mocking liscab? The changing of liscabs phrasing will take away from my amusement on the site and that is just unacceptable.

Next time just take care of them like this liscab....

Tolkien was a devout Catholic and it does really come through in the context of his storytelling......without actually coming of as being "preachy"

True...but so much of the story is based on other mythologies such as old norse, and anglo-saxon

from the concept of the world tree and Midgard or middle -earth

to the use of elves and dwarves from norse and celtic mythos

to even the concept of the one ring

to even Shadowfax which comes from from the horses Skinfaxi and Hrímfaxi in Norse Mythology.

All kinds of stuff... History chanel had a show on a few months ago actually about all the mythology behind it all

EDIT...ooh theres a fun Trivia bit... the 3 rings for elven kings...what are they and where are they
