EM Riva vs 3.7 box mod

Hello,
I'm month + vaper and ready to step up from 808D-1 to something more powerful.

In my long and careful research I found EM Riva to be best PV for my next step, but than came to conclusion, that for about same [or less] money I can have a great box mod.

If I get a box mod [Nhaler 3.7V Box Mod $45.00 Comes with a 306 LR Atomizer and Drip Tip, 1-14500 (3.7V 600mah) Limn High Drain Battery, 6ml bottle of e-liquid] - wouldn't I get about same or better experience as with EM Riva?
Battery has about same life, voltage is 3.7 - a bit higher/better. Is there anything I can loose comparing to EM Riva?

Any advice/opinions are welcome.

Opinions from people who tried Ego/Riva and this [or this kind] Mod Box are especially appropriated.

With the Ego/Riva you are locked into their batteries being that all it really is. With a Box mod you can replace batteries easy and cheaper, not to mention the Box mod you have a manual kill switch which eliminates it going off in your pocket, besides you are getting an atty, drip tip and juice in the deal. IMO, the Box Mod is always a better deal. I say this owning both and no longer touch my eGos.

I started with a Riva, and now currently use a 3.7v and a 5v boxmod that I've built myself.

The advantage of a box mod is that it will be cheaper over the long run. Batteries are going to die on both devices, but a Riva battery is $20, while the 14500's you need for a mod are ~ $5.00 each. I really don't notice a vaping difference between the Riva and my 3.7v mod (5v...well yeah!)...the box mod maybe hits a little harder when charged as the battery charges a tad more than the Riva.

Personally, I wouldn't get the one NHaler is selling. That price is pretty expensive for a simple box mod, and don't forget you will need another battery (at least) and a charger as well. If you have even a little skill and know how, it's pretty easy to build your own for $7 worth of parts. Give the Modders forum a look and read some of the stickied posts there, especially the "Nico Stick" post that details step by step with pictures on how to build a simple mod.

I have a RIVA and love it, its my work e-cig. But at home its my homeade 5V Sassinator all the time.

I have also heard that the box mods will hold true voltage until the battery is dead unlike the riva type batteries that drop off almost immediately.

I was very disappointed with the relatively rapid drain and short lifespan of the 14500s. I went from a BB to eGo/RiVa and have not regretted it. These batteries are beasts.

This has been said I believe, but I'll just add my opinion as well. To me, a mod that uses cheaper batteries pays for itself over the long haul. You get a mod that takes the same attys as the ego battery, and now you have a PV that takes 5-7 dollar batteries, as opposed to 15-20 dollar batteries. I bought an Ego for my first PV, because I didn't know any better. If I had it to do over, I would have just gotten a mod and saved my battery money.

The price for the Nhaler package seems very reasonable and it seems to have a decent switch, unlike the under-rated chintzy thing the WetBox uses. Looking at the whole package, LR atty, high drain batt, juice and drip tip the box comes in at about $20.

Tie breaker...........get both!!! I built box mods to see if I wanted to move to custom made mods and still use them alot. EastMall has Rivas for $55 shipped and while there get a pack or two of 510 LR attys($3 each!!!). Its always good to have backups, but thats just me.

As for "The chatter about volts and the this/thats has me at a loss": It all has to do with Ohms Law. There are various ways to formulate it, but this is the one most relevant for this purpose:
Watts (i.e., power) = Volts X Volts / Ohms (i.e., resistance)

The higher the watts, the more intense the vaping experience (vapor, flavor, and throat hit). ~10 watts is widely regarded to be the "sweet spot." A typical e-cig battery is 3.7V, although the 510 and eGO (aka Tornado) batteries are more like 3.2V. A standard 510 atomizer is about 2.2 ohms. So the power of a 510 or eGO setup is about 4.6 watts [3.2 X 3.2 / 2.2]. It's amazing that the 510 atty can generate the vapor it does with that puny power.

Until just a few months ago, the only way to goose that upward was with higher battery voltage, i.e., the high-voltage mods. A 6V mod (using two stacked 3.0V batteries) yields about 16 watts. [6 X 6 / 2.2] Whoa! Since that is a bit much, 5V mods (and passthroughs) have been popular. The same two batteries plus a resister or regulator to bring it down to 5V output, yielding 11 watts. Ooo! The "sweet spot."

But for a few months now, LR (low-resistance) atomizers have been available. They accomplish the same thing as higher voltage. For example, a 1.5 ohm LR 510 atty on a puny 3.2V 510 or eGO battery yields about 7 watts: much better than that 4.6 watts. On a true 3.7V battery (e.g., a mod with a 14500 or 18650 battery), a 1.5 ohm atty yields 9 watts. Now that is sweet!

NOTE:

In order to use an LR atomizer, you need a high mAh battery. [mAh = milliamp hours. The higher the mAh, the more puffs between battery charges.] The regular 510 battery is only 180 mAh (not nearly enough); the eGO battery is 650 mAh (just fine); most batteries in mods range from 900 to 3000 mAh (plenty).

If you use an LR atomizer on a high-voltage battery (e.g., 5V or 6V), you'll fry the atomizer. [16-24 watts is not "sweet" at all.]"

I'm with the others about not having to be locked in to buying custom batts so I use what working Tornado batts I have left as backups and vape mods using 14500 batts with LR attys.
