Empty/dry hits

Hi, long time listener, first time caller.

My wife is getting "empty" hits from her tank. Having searched on this topic previously, it seems most people associate burnt taste with dry hits. Perhaps there's another term I should be using, but that's not what's happening - she just gets nothing. She has a Kanger Nano clearomizer using the OCC coils, on an eLeaf 50w battery, and has used both 1.2ohm and 0.5ohm coils. She vapes 100%VG, running at about 29w regardless of resistance. Thing is, I vape 100% VG juice too, on a Kanger Subox with the mini tank, at about 20-25w, and I get almost no dry hits using either coil type.

Any ideas? Since there's no burnt taste, I'm wondering if it's a battery issue. The battery display seems to be functioning normally during the "dry hit". The contacts seem to be clean, and it's been a pretty consistent issue over several coils.

so, when you say 'empty' hits - is it just not firing? no vapor?

It is possible the atty is not making contact, or the firing electronics in the mod are south. As you say, a burnt taste is common if you have wicking problems. Still, 100% VG is hard to wick, especially in small diameter, pre-made coils. If that is the problem, try thinning the VG with a few drops (no more than 5%) distilled water.

my guess is she just started vaping last week and the coil needs replacing.

check the display on the istick for any troubleshooting information. ohms

Nothing (happening) is bad. If it's not firing, then either the atomizer is dead or there is no electrical connection. It happens.
When it does, I get worried my mod is broken, but thankfully that only happened once.

You can buy distilled water at any market or grocery store, in the water isle.

Thanks. She's been vaping for 5 months, and had the current atty for about 2. I'll mention the distilled water trick. I did clean the contacts pretty well (actually, right after my original post) but the empty hits continued. Thing is, I basically chain-vape with my Subox, which has the larger version of the same tank and the same coil, and juice. It's actually become somewhat more frequent with the 0.5ohm coils than with the 1.2.

Make sure the pin on the bottom of the tank is sticking out past the threads, That happened on my mini and the base was coming apart so the pin didn't stick out far enough.

It's amazing what a couple of sockets and a hammer can fix
