There was a thread over a month ago talking about how swapping to vaping might increase lung capacity, etc here. I wanted to update with some new findings and ask others to give their input as well.

I put down analogs and picked up e-cigs again 39 days ago. I started working out exactly 7 days ago. I just did a VO2 Max test and got good results. For being a month smoke-free you probably couldn't tell I ever smoked.

I hope others find this motivating. Anyone else chime in with performance improvements since vaping?

I do not have any instruments capable of measuring vo2 max or anything but I was a runner even when I smoked. I was limited to about 4-5 miles at a time and my times were around the 10:43 pace or 5.6 mph.

Since I started vaping, I've run two half marathons and right now am preparing for a third in March. My half marathon pace is around 10:20, my 10k pace is now about 9:50.

With smoking I always seemed to be hitting the aerobic wall, with vaping, I find my legs give out long before my heart and lungs scream for a break.

Training is what makes all this possible, don't get me wrong, but without making the switch I wasn't able to train at this higher mileage level and/or increase speed.

I'm 41 now and am looking forward to running into my 60s and beyond.

Ooooh, a thread after my own heart!

I gave up analogs right when we transitioned to our new practice venue, which has a VERY different floor than I'm used to (read: it's slicker than owl snot and difficult to skate on). We do a 5 minute time trial pretty regularly, and my first one in the new venue, a week after my quit, was 25.75 laps. I managed to get 28 in the same trial earlier this week.

I excited for Saturday as it'll be my first time back on our old floor since my quit. I was averaging 27 laps on that floor as a smoker; I'm hoping to do a trial during warm-ups to see if I can get to 30...
