Hey guys, been lurking around these forums for a while and I must thank everyone one of you for helping me take the first step towards a smoke free life but I digress and onto my main point:

I've recently decided moved onto mechanical mods after my old VV/VW mod was stolen. These forums helped me find a great mod (18350) from Chels and its called the Microstick and I paired it with a GP spheroid. However since I'm new to rebuildables, I wasn't confident building my own coils yet so I called a local B&M and asked them if they could help and they told me to bring it in and for a small fee, they'd gladly build and wick my coils.

When I went in later on that day and showed them my Spheroid, they all looked at the thing and told me they never saw and atomizer that small before. But I wasn't too worried because I figured they were professionals and coil building was in their line of expertise.

However, the person who was building my coils used one type of wire (thicker than the one I received with my spheroid) and didn't even bother to check it on a ohms meter until I mentioned it. I watched instructional videos online and I was informed that the ideal range for this arty was around 1.3 ohms. The worker then grabs an ohms meter from a BRAND NEW BOX and plugs it in to check. The reading? 0.4 ohms. That's when the red flags in my head went off.

Firstly, do you have to check the ohms every time you build your atty? Secondly, can I run that low on a small mod like this without running the risk of my ruining my setup? I paid top dollar for this and I do not want to mess it up. Please help!

Oh yeah on the topic of Euro vs Americans mod/atomizers the reason I brought that part up was because both my mod is from overseas in Europe (Microstick from Israel and GP Spheroid from Greece) are these not common mods and atomizers in the U.S.? Is that the reason why they didn't know what my setup was or did I just go to a really bad B&M?

.40 is low for the battery for sure. And I may be wrong about this part but I think Todd said that mod is not rated for sub ohm for sure and the spheroid just by looking at it and the little 350 mod you have I would shoot for the 1ohm range. You can safely vape there without worry for damage to your batt cell and equipment. You should always check ohm's when you rebuild. Stay away from heavy guage wire with that set up, 30 guage would be perfect for it.

1. Yes, you have to measure the ohms of your coil every time you build. I periodically recheck my builds as well. I don't rebuild every couple of days.
2. How low you can build (from a safety standpoint) depends on the continuous amp rating of your battery (with allowance for headroom).
3. I'd stay away from that B&M.

If you are new to mech mods and rebuildables I highly recommend you spend some time with Baditude (one of our resident battery experts) and visit his blogs. You are now 100% in control of your own safety (and others around you). Make sure you purchase an ohm reader and a voltmeter or DMM so you can measure your builds, check for shorts and measure the remaining charge on your batteries.

Baditudes Blogs. The blogs regarding battery safety and Ohm's Law (and amp limitations) are listed below:

BATTERIES

9. Battery Basics for Mods: IMR or Protected ICR?
* Another essential read to understand which batteries are safe to use in mechanical and regulated mods. Includes a frequently updated list of recommended safe-chemistry, high-drain batteries with their specifications.

17. Purple Efest Batteries Not As Advertised
* A cautionary blog that reveals that the purple Efest batteries may not have the specifications advertised. Also includes a commentary on "continuous discharge ratings" vs "pulse discharge ratings" of battery specs.

OHM'S LAW

14. Ohm's Law for Dummies (Vapers)
* My attempt at explaining Ohm's Law in layman terms and how it relates to vaping.

16. Explain it to the Dumb Noob: Ohm's Law Calculations
* As simple as it is to use, some people have a tough time grasping the concept. Warning: Includes graphic photos of mod explosions.

BATTERIES - WHERE TO BUY

Only buy batteries from a reputable supplier (not ebay or Amazon) as there are many counterfeit batteries being sold. Here are several reputable battery suppliers in the US.

* RTD Vapor
* Illumination Supply
* Lighthound
* Orbtronics

in my aiolos tank, I am using 30g at ~1.56mm 8 rap for around 1.6Ω so it is stable with my 14500/14650 batterys. it hits good like that with good vapor an taste production, I have noticed a lot of voltage drop on 18350 with 1.3Ω an lower resistance. It is not a good ideal to run a battery with that much drop
