Ever wonder why agencies that are against smoking are also against e-cigs?

Per the name of this thread, please note that Smokefree Pennsylvania and I have campaigned to reduce cigarette smoking for the past
26 years, and we've also been urging smokers to switch to e-cigarettes for the past six years.
Hi Bill
What's your speculation regarding the FDA's plan for e-cigs AFTER the election?

Well Bill, good for you and Smokefree Pennsylvania. Unfortunately, as you can tell by the link I posted, not all so called "health" organizations feel the way you do. Even though e-cigs are relatively new and have not been tested as much as some people want, they have still been proven to be much, much safer than analogs.
Hopefully someday governments, and the agencies they control, will quit thinking about losing taxes and bribes and start to do what is in the best health of their citizens.

In the US we have a separation of Church and State. Both are to act autonomously and without bias towards or against one another. The theory being one shouldn't influence the other.

Now as a society in this country, secularism is on the risen, and yet people have the urge to believe in something. This is the main problem. People are focusing their efforts in worship of different causes. We have fights over every belief. Whether its eliminating fossil fuel use to evolution in schools, whether its creating tougher penalties on drinking and driving to smoking cessation. People have put FAITH in their causes, and it comes with an advantage.

This faith can freely influence goverment. No restrictions whatsoever. Including campaign funding and spreading biased propaganda. I think its time as a people to not only understand the fact that this is happening, but if willing to, we should stop it. Now as a libertarian if you disagree with me, awesome, do your thing. I for one do not donate any of my money or time to causes that force legislation of any kind. Nor do I donate to any cause that has any contact whatsoever with gov't officials. this would include ALL smokefree organizations.

To me they are a threat to liberty, Nobody has the right to tell you what to do. Bill Godshall is a good and decent man IMO from what I've read. I support his efforts in tobacco harm reduction even though I thoroughly disagree with his attacks against smoking. This is the same reason why all these organizations are doing what they're doing. Its about a FAITH in the fact that they feel its the right thing to do.

The money is a nice mitigating factor, but not the underlying cause. As such as long as organizations are allowed to lobby legislators the problem will persist. Believe in the separation of church and state? Then why support lobbyist organizations? My answer is I wont.

To be honest I'm not surprised some of those groups/organizations would be against e-cigs, money given to them or not
Nicotine is still addictive and still isn't one of the best compounds you can put in your body, but villianizing e-cigs to be as "bad" as analogs is just derp. The only "bad" compound produced is nicotine, every other bad-for-you thing in analogs are quite absent

Only the dose is bad. Nicotine isn't nearly as addictive as pop culture would have us believe. The thing that make cigarettes so addictive is the combination of nicotine + 4000+ chemicals in cigarettes (including MAOI inhibitors, and some really nasty stuff). And the habit too.

Nicotine is about on par with caffeine as far as danger and addictive qualities. These groups promoting abstinence from nicotine should also be answering the question, but what about caffeine? Kids drink coffee & soda, and can certainly be addicted to that (don't even get me started on all the sugar)! :glare:

Well of course RX companies are against e-cigs. Not only are reforming smokers turning to vaping instead of rx that have nearly as many side effect and negative out comes as smoking the darn analogs but I have also found there are companies out there testing juices to contain properties to lower cholesterol, blood pressure, joint pain, appitite suppressants, and these are just a I remeber off my the top of my head. The possibilities of vaping have huge implications on improving health and reducing heath risks not only to those vaping but others around them. I am sure thats why litigators are also jumping on the band wagon, less people taking harmful drugs means less lawsuits after injury, complications and tragedies.
