I have been vaping for a while and I still have a tendency on the weekend towards the end of the day to lose taste cause Im bad about not drinking my water. During the week I have a 64 oz Bubba Keg that I use all day at work and that does the trick. Just always try to have a big glass of ice water beside you when you are vaping.

Well, I have a slight taste again, but yea, I am fully certain now its dehydration, as I went to take a vape, I gagged from having no saliva... But I bought a purified water pitcher to get all this crap out of our water, and some chilling now, so in about an hour I can see if the difference is good. Will be getting more juices friday so hopefully that will also help. Thanks everyone for your 2cents, a few more and I would be able to buy juices with that :p

Once the mouth is dry one is already dehydrated. Then said person will take a big gulp and get the 'belly slosh'. Divide your body weight in half & drink that many ounces spread throughout the day. It takes dedication to stay properly hydrated. If one needs 100 oz a day divide waking hrs into oz & drink that many ozs per hr. Sipping, not gulping. Proper hydration is critical! Good luck.

Holy.... How do you know how much I weigh?! So 6 to 10 oz an hour... Certainly a major life changer, nearly triple my current intake of roughly 36oz of liquid daily...

"If you drink caffeinated drinks, you need to add an equal amount of water to counterbalance the hydration lost via the caffeine."

then add another 36oz to my daily water consumption if I wish to continue drinking soda... so more than triple.... Why couldn't we be 70% milk or soda :\

Totally agree with hydrating throughout the day. I can't believe I went years without drinking water. Once you get used to it, you can't go without it. I try to drink a bottle on the way to work and by noon, another bottle during lunch and by closing time, and then a third bottle on the drive home and through dinner. That way I can drink booze all night. LMAO! j/k.

Oh I remember it well. I couldn't even taste the juice that got in my mouth. I learned.. slosh/gargle or drink water ( don't do that one as I can't hold all that liquid LOL) and the point is to hydrate the taste areas of the mouth, etc, that the pg/vg dehydrates. And make sure to alternate between at least two juices back and forth throughout the day. The juices have to be nothing alike or have no common elements. What I mean is this: Cinnamon bun alternated with another juice with cinnamon won't work as they use the same taste buds and the whole point is to let overworked buds rest.... so switch between that and watermelon or some other fruit for example. Vaping uses taste buds like nothing else has in your life has especially if chain vaping which I do.

Been off tar for 30 hours, so that's where I'm coming from.

The juices for me are just a matter of relativity, some tasting a LOT like garbage, some less. Can't say anything tastes like Celine Dions' neck.

Maybe it's a matter of expectation, or exposure to death sticks, whatever the case, I've found something I can tolerate (happens to be desert joe, which i just got today)

Not trying to answer the question, or paint Norman Rockwells' happy picture, just identified with the question and figured I'd chime in.

Stay off the coffin nails and run down the street naked (be aware of local laws)

You said you mixed flavors and it tastes horrible. One thing to keep in mind when mixing flavors. Nic juice is not like mixing food in a blender. You can take chocolate syrup and bananas in a blender add vanilla and pour over ice cream for a sunday. However, mixing those juices that were pre-mixed together can cause quite a horrible flavor reaction. The reason I have found is: Different bases for your mixed flavors. What was the original base for PG and VG? What was the base for the flavors? This is where you can get horrible tasting combinations. I have read that some mixologists will use base flavoring that have similar carriers allowing a blend to mix without any adverse effects.

We have to keep in mind that these flavors are chemicals and not real food, so we just can't add something at will to make a flavor that we think would be pleasing. The chemical reaction behind blends might not produce the results we would anticipate. Another thing to consider when mixing flavors, we need to let the "blend" step so all the flavors can interact with each other.

Eventually, I would like to DIY, but I'm currently studying "flavorology" (as I call it). I really don't want to waste good PG/VG/NIC and flavorings going into it blind.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

I quit smoking about ten years ago without vaping, and I went through a period of everything tasting weird and horrible then too. It was pretty commonly discussed on the quit smoking forum I followed at the time. It's definitely sucky when the liquids that you liked yesterday all taste like dog poo but it will pass. All the advice given here about hydration and adding a touch of menthol helped me out. And yeah smoking a real cigarette can definitely shock you back to your senses, I tried it here and there in my first week or so and haven't looked back since. My yuckiest wish-I-never-bought-them-wouldn't-give-them-to-my-evil-neighbor taste and feel better than analogs now.
My daughter started vaping recently and went through all the same stuff, nothing tastes good days, days when none of your things works right..I think most people do at the start. Still in all, when I think about it - I had very few days while smoking when it *really* tasted good, and decades of it tasting downright crappy and giving me COPD as a parting gift. Vaping is like the reverse of smoking..it gets *better* with time. =)

Starting about 6 hours ago, my french vanilla which I have been vaping the last week and a half, started tasting like absolutely nothing... Just air, and occasionally a water taste... So I tried mixing my french vanilla with banana, and it taste like... things I can't say on this forum... I've also noticed a almost constant metal scent... I've only been vaping almost consistantly for the the last 3 days, only smoking 7 cigarettes in that time, if that is of any importance. Peanut butter however, still taste perfectly yummy...

I'm curious what PG or VG ratio are these juices and what delivery device(s) are you using and are you chain vaping? Chain vaping drys me out, but VG less so than anything with PG. Each day, by evening, I sometimes get flavor burnout...and have to switch up lots of flavors in my daily rotation. Sometimes a couple swigs of coke or pepsi works, but then, yes we should counter balance with lots of extra water :)
Good luck!

70/30 vg/pg, on a vivi nova, with various heads, and my half renewed cottonball head. Yes, I do chain vape, and I would like to switch flavours, but I am still recovering from xmas, so unable to get a variety of juices atm. But I have increased my water intake, using mio stuffs to make the taste bareable (I was spoiled on well water as a kid, so this city water stuff is just bleh...)

No matter what, you will waste some juice when DIY'ing. It just goes along with the learning process. Just try out new mixes at no more than 3 ml batches at a time so if they are unvapable, it's no biggie. Even if you have to waste some along the way, it probably will still be way cheaper than buying premade juices at a huge markup and finding out you don't really like them either :) And definitely read up alot in the DIY forum section.

Glad I found this thread. My last analog was 11 days ago, and my taste buds have been wonky since day 3. The water here is awful as well, but I do like the bottled vitamin water, so I'll make myself drink more of it. Fluids have always been difficult for me for some reason; I'm rarely thirsty, and normally only consume about a pint of liquid a day. Been like that all my life. Weird, I know.

I also noticed that if I sucked on some hard candy and got some saliva action going, my tastebuds would recover somewhat.
