cincy, oh
I'd say it's either the filler actually in the atty or the filler in the cart.

Replacing the cart filler is the easiest in troubleshooting. If the filler is dark, then there is a good chance this is the problem.

If the filler on the atty is burnt (you can't see it so you can only guess), you can try one or some of the different atty cleaning methods posted around here (soaking, boiling, etc...). Easiest thing to do is just put the atty under a faucet for a minute, blow it out, and let it sit over night. It's not a deep cleaning, but does pretty well.

Still, could be you.

Oh that I definitely know. This is a different sort of burnt taste though. If it's dry, it tastes the way burnt hair smells 8-o

Soak your atomizer in Crest Pro-Health mouthwash for approx. 20 minutes in a small cup, agitating lightly every minute or two. Rinse well with hot water, blow out the excess water, then let dry overnight.

I have used this method on several atomizers, and it will remove any bad flavors plus the mouthwash does a really good job of cleaning out any left over e-juice crud stuck to the heating element / wick. If that method doesn't fix the bad taste you are getting, then I would replace the atomizer.

Just my 2 cents...

I haven't tried the crest pro, but I soak my atty's in 100 proof vodka overnight (no pga) in PA and it seems to work well for me always getting rid of the burnt taste so far. I read using pga but that's not an option for me. As stated on the previous post the crest mouthwash method was recommended by more experienced users. Good luck and happy vaping!

No matter what flavor I put into my 402, things are tasting slightly burnt... Is this the atty going out? Or could it possibly just be me (which I won't discount, I'm a little weird)?

Anyone else have this issue?
It used to taste like something was burning and the smoke was really hot until I pulled all of the wicking material out of all my atomizers.

I have had this happen completely out of the blue on a number of occasions as well and last time it didn't go away on it's own. It turned out that my atty wasn't completely seated against the battery connection. I'm hesitant to tell anyone to crank down on their atty to tighten it up against the connector (and loosen up the threads inside, so it can sit properly) but that is exactly what I did, and in my case it worked like a charm.

If you try everything, and I mean everything... And still have the burnt taste and are considering tossing it, this *COULD* be your problem. The worst part for me is that it was intermittent... One day fine, the next 2 it was garbage... Then *magically* it was okay again the next. I cranked it as tight as I could while being as careful as possible. From then on, I can unscrew it and screw it back on and it ALWAYS works, never a burnt taste... Simply a possibility to consider! Don't destroy your ecig in the process! =)

Somebody saved me with this when I was brand new. A burnt taste can be caused by a tiny (and it can be really tiny) bit of the filler in the cart coming loose and sticking to the atty bridge. It's worth a check before you try drastic meaures.

How do I check that? Just look for fuzzies?

That happened to me the past week. I was going crazy, using the same atty/cart on 4 different mods. The problem turned out to be that the cart filler was not making enough contact with the wick. I changed the filler out, and cut it so it wouldn't slide down like the other one did. If it doesn't slide down, it makes a nice pocket for the wic, and everything is good after that. I'm using that blue filter foam stuff.

I don't know if this is any help or not.
Toner - The black dust inside toner cartridges for laser printers...
Is carbon. When toner dust gets on "things" clothing, skin, carpet etc.
The BEST way to clean up the mess (minus the vacuum) is COLD WATER.
It comes right off of clothing and skit etc.
After all, the atomizer element (Coiled small wire that we cannot see) accumulates carbon. I would imagine over time, the carbon will reduce the heating action of the element, and we would either think the atomizer is dead, not performing correctly, or, we are having the 'burnt' taste.
I have an RN8041 on my flashlight mod. I've been using this for nearly 1 month on this mod, previously I used it on the NJoy ecig that it came with (purchased in November)
1 cleaning 1 time, cold water since November. Keep your atty's wet... This IS the key.
I run near the 5v range with this. and of course, the original NJoy was lower voltage.
I abuse my mod. Its still running strong. Please keep in mind, for those of you that have torn apart attys completely, you already know this info: the coiled element inside the atty is not much thicker than a strand of hair... coiled up like a micro-spring. Carbon will stick on this element I would guess.
Tobacco flavors are my favorite.
I hope this has helped a little.
