take the head off the battery. use a q-tip with alcohol on it and clean away. The alcohol will evaporate leaving virtually no residue and you will have a spiffy clean control head. You can also use alcohol on a cotton ball wadded up and this should reach the deep ring around the contact pin.
The battery contact on the control head is sealed. So you shouldn't have to worry about shorting it out easily. I use 90% Isopropyl Alcohol to clean all my electronics. It evaps dry and quick. If you are talking about cleaning an actual atomizer though, there is a better way for those lol.
