Went and found the thread. It says to right click it go to properties then the compatibility tab and click run as admin. Now that's for a pc and I have no experience with a Mac but I assume y'all got something like that as well. Pretty much it needs to run as admin but if you just click to do it you have to do it every time but if you change the properties then its good to go. Hope this helps like I said I don't use a Mac but just wanted to try to help out. Happy vaping.

Unfortunately, nothing like that on a Mac.

Anyone else have a charge only option when you plug in the evic? I'm not seeing that option, which means I either have to use a wall adapter or fire up my XP virtual machine to use it as a passthrough.

The device should charge without you having to even open the MVR software. Just plug it into your computer and as long as the device says "Charging...Uploading...," it's charging. :)

Yeah it will charge just fine, but you can't use it while it's charging (passthrough). In the Windows version, when you plug it in you can select charge only, and it will charge AND let you use it. It will change to "charging" only. When it says "charging...uploading..." it will not let you use it. For now I use a wall plug with a USB cable, which does not use the data pins of the cable, only the power pins, so it only says charging. It's when data is flowing between the device and computer that it will say uploading and keep the device shut off. With the Windows software this is bypassed by selecting charge only, which cuts data to the device and unmounts it from the computer so that only the power pins are in use, making it a passthrough. On MAC there is no such option, and so it always says "charging...uploading..." which does charge it but does not allow you to use it. This is a BIG oversight on Joyetech's part, as they have killed the passthrough capability for Mac users without having to use a wall plug. There are a couple of other oversight's on their part with the Mac version as well (such as telling you to place the upgrade file in the HEX folder, which the Mac version doesn't have, you just place it on the desktop) which is a sign they rushed it to get it out ASAP so that people could upgrade to 1.2 if they didn't have a PC. It's most definitely better than nothing, the program is still in beta, but I hope they get it fixed soon.

EDIT:

Also, there is not specifically a "run as administrator" on Mac, but there are permissions which may not have been set. Make sure you are logged in as an admin user (if you're the only user, you're admin). You can right-click on the MVR program under your Applications folder, go to "Get Info" and then look at the bottom for "Permissions." Make sure the permissions are not restricted. On mine it goes like this:

system - Read & Write
admin - Read & Write
everyone - Read only

You can also try going to Disk Utility, select your main OS partition, and click Repair Permissions, and see if that gets you anywhere. Make sure to reboot. Also try another USB port if you haven't. Mine doesn't seem to like my USB 3.0 port for some reason. Had to use a USB 2.0 port.

I'm sure they'll get everything fixed.

And also, I haven't had a chance to run it on my Mac yet, but I'm sure that there's a HEX folder in <yourusername>--->Library--->Application Support--->My Vapor Record

Or something similar to that^.

I don't really mind it looking on the desktop for the firmware file, it's the fact that they still tell you in the program to place the file in a non-existant folder when selecting the "upgrade" option. People like you or me would be able to figure it out, but newbies or non-technical people will probably not, and could potentially flood the forum with posts regarding a new update. Of course, if they release a new version of MVR with every firmware update, this would be a non-issue, other than having to move or delete the firmware file after loading. Although I hope this is not the case, as I don't want to have to install the new software unless there are some real improvements with it, just to update the firmware.

I would like to see the MVR software separate from the firmware updater personally. Just let the MVR be MVR and have a separate program to run the firmware updater. Would make things simpler I think.

Yeah, got my evic. Boo, the software will not see it (Mac). The software tells me it cannot communicate when trying to upgrade the firmware, and "Read the record number:0" when trying to download from the evic.

Any suggestions?

Try it with a different cable if you can. Did you reboot after installing?

I just got my evic today and it worked fine on my Mac. I did use a cable I already had.

I tried a different cable, removed mpv, the update, and the kernel, and reloaded the software after reboot. No joy. I loaded it in xp, and was able to update. I really want it to work in osx, and not need to boot into windows. :(

Any other ideas?

In Get Info, have you tried setting the everyone usergroup to Read and Write?
