So I will be getting an eVic to try out tomorrow, once I get it what's to be set up with it?

I guess it's not as easy as just put in the battery and fire it up.
So will I have to install some software to get it up and running? or will it already be installed?
I use a Macbook Pro if that matters

Will it update straight to the lastest version or do I have to install that separate?

I looked at version 1.1 upgrade and it says:
How to upgrade
1. Download eVic firmware file 'code.bin' from Joyetech electronic cigarette, Tank System, Changeable System, eVic, eRoll, eGo-C, eGo-T, 510-T, e-Liquid.
2. Put this file into HEX folder under the root directory of MVR software.
But I don't have the list of things in my folder in the root directory

Any other tips?

Welcome Maka !
I usually just let it run at whatever volts or watts the system sets it to after it detects the atomizer.
You can adjust it a little up if you like a warmer vape, or down if you like it cooler....
But avoid cranking it up too much or you will do as I did last weekend..popped two atty coils on my Vision ET RBA !
Got a workout rewinding coils.

Good for you with your new MOD....think you are really going to like it.

Welcome to the eVic Dungeon.
I'm sure you will do fine with the eVic. Unpack and charge it up.
Download and install your software now so you will be ready. You can browse through it even without an eVic connected.
Eviv includes a very detailed set of instructions to bore you while it's charging. Read away and learn.:)

I found that if I try to charge a 3400mAh Panasonic battery in my eVic through the USB, I got that same "High Temp Warning", and the head DID feel a little warm, so I charge that battery in a wall charger now.

I only charge the stock pink Samsung 2600mAh battery via USB now, and that works just fine.

Also, I find that if you take your tank/atty/carto/whatever off your eVic, it charges a little faster, and doesn't get as warm...

Try taking the top ring off the eVic. I heard that works.

Tried that and still doesn't work.
Just strange it works fine on the ProVari.
It can only be the center pin not making a connection, but even after pulling it down a little it still won't work.
I need to get a brand new iClear30 and test that out.

My 30 didnt work on the evic out of the box, I get a shorted atty warning. But if I take one puff of the 30 on an ego, it works fine on the evic. That has happened and worked the two times ive switched it so far. Strange...

But its my first mod and I feel like r2d2 just shot this thing at me across the sarlac pit. It does a fine job of deflecting blaster fire ;)

How does one explain simplicity in design.

If the eVic is working, take all it's bell and whistles out of the equation.
All you have left is a simple End-to-End circuit.

Power into Base of whatever
UP the center post to the coil
Through the coil into the outer housing
Down the housing to the Battery

<============> Any NON-contact point = circuit failure

Coil Not firing:
No power from battery - Rare
Coil loose - occasionally
Coil Blown - Rare - no recovery
Center pins not contacting - Most likely - most often the issue.
Dirty Threads on Battery - occasionally
