Hi, I have been using a Vivi Nova for awhile and got sick of all the effort that I consistently had to put into it in order to get it to work. A few weeks ago I bought a Kangertech Evod BCC and I really like it. Unfortunately I have been having issues with it recently. I was not getting much vapor so my natural instinct was to change the coil. I put a new coil on and still was having the same issues. I shook it, swirled it around, waited and still did not work. I know that they are not supposed to have a tight contact with the battery, but I was getting nothing so I tightened it. Of course that burnt out the coil. I put a new one on and it was working for a few days but now I am getting little to no vapor (similar effect of having a battery that is low on juice). I took the head off and blew through it (getting good results when this happened with my Vivi Nova) but to no avail. I still am not getting any results. I tried holding down the button for awhile thinking that it was flooded, still nothing. Anyone have any ideas?

I have a standard 650 mah eGo battery and 50/50 juice.

I am open to looking into a new tank that would not have these issues. (I have tried carto tanks and they flood like crazy for me and I did not like them.)

Is your juice dark? It sounds like maybe a coil clogger. Ever other fill or so I rinse my evods and about once a week I do a quick dry burn. The ONLY time I have ever had an evod give really scant vapor other than a toasted coil was using a super sweet and/or super dark liquid.

A good rinse and dry burn will fix it if this is the case - but there really isnt any way to prevent it. I drop anything super dark or anything sweet that gets gunky out of regular rotation and reserve it for dripping. My evod coils last months now and my carto tank hasnt flooded since.

When I have that problem with my Evod and everything else checks out such as new or good coil head, sufficiently charged battery, full tank of juice, etc., it is usually that the battery has gotten flooded with juice for any number of reasons. I just clean it off with a Q-tip and that resolves the problem for me. I do notice that if the juice in the tank gets down too low, more than halfway, it will leak onto the battery.

Yes, I hear a sound when pushing the button, i don't know if i would call it a hissing sound, but it sounds normal to me.

My juice is actually clear and not very thick and it has been less than a week since i put the new wick in.

I can just take the wicks out? I have never done that but it sounds like it would be worth a try. Do you just pull them out?

Also I have not had luck with the dry burning in the past but maybe i was referring to bad instructions... ?

If you are using a particularly dark or sweet juice, you might be gunking up the coils faster than normal. Try taking out the heads, soaking them in vodka for a few hours, then doing a dry burn on them. There was also a recent batch of Kanger coil heads (what you are using) that was really bad. My friends over at our local B&M were rebuilding all of the bad heads for their customers who were having problems. So, it could be a number of things. BCC tanks tend to be a bit fiddly because of the way they feed juice into the device. I've heard great things about the Aspire tanks, as they are BDC systems with replaceable heads. Good luck! Hope your trouble shooting figures out the problem.

Here's a pic of an Evod coil torn apart. The top post can be popped off and on with just a little bit of force. The third thing from the right is the flavor wicks, there are usually three of them and they sit loose on top of the coil...

Try taking 1 out or all 3 until it wicks correctly.

To remove the flavor wicks, (just take out one of them to start) you will pry off the top "chimney" portion of the tank as well as the silicone grommet. This will expose the wicks. Remove one of the wicks that is resting on top of the coiled wick. Replace the top chimney portion of the head and replace the silicone grommet. Be sure that the chimney is snapped on all the way, or your head will leak like crazy. Reassemble your tank, and refill. Give the wicks some time to reabsorb the juice. Also be sure to give your tanks a few short, unpowered primer puffs every once in awhile to keep your wicks saturated. If you see the bubbles rise in your tank, you are doing the right thing. Cheers!

Do you know the resistance of the coils in the EVOD?

It sounds like your battery is firing as normal. As you are using a clearer juice, I doubt if your coil is gunked up (but a really good clean and dry burn will verify this is not the issue) so maybe it's that you are using a higher resistance head.

EVODs usually give great vapor, at least on a par with a vivi nova - but the vape will be a little cooler than you are used to as the clearo is a bottom coil type device.

Thanks guys for all your advice! I will try removing the wicks and see if that helps. If it doesn't I will yet again switch to a new tank... Argh. Interesting about the bad coils, any idea what was happening with them?

I'm not sure what the specific problem with the coils was. Either burning out, or giving folks dry and burnt hits. As far as removing the wicks, I'd take them out one at a time. Start with one, then go from there. My wicking GREATLY improved with my 50/50 blends after just taking one wick out. Good luck!

My RG500's use the same heads but with a longer fluted pole and I had no end of problems with the 2.4ohm ones but the atty came alive with a 1.8ohm head, no more leaking or clogging.

How old is the battery itself? From what I understand they do degrade with time, bigger capacity ones will degrade I imagine noticeably slower than a lower capacity battery so maybe you are getting less "useful" power before it is depleted and needs charging again.

Cool, thanks! I will try this.

The resistance of the coil may be to high for York battery. I know that when I would use a 2.5ohm coil on my 650mah ego that it wouldn't perform very well. Small clouds and weak flavor. The 1.8ohm coils worked best for me on the ego.

Hmm, yeah I have been wondering about this as I have always had luck with the lower resistance. The guy at the vape store assured me that if anything I would have better cloud production... :/ I may try a lower ohm coil too.

I have three different batteries ranging from 1.5 years - 6 mos. old. I could definitely stand to get newer ones. I would also really like to get a better battery but I am not down with the bulkiness of them (or the price) at all. Once they make them a relatively normal size I will consider getting an awesome one.
