Evod coil head rebuilding trouble

Hey guys,
I've been having trouble getting the kanger evod coil heads to taste right.
Im using them on a zmax v3 and have tried from 8-11 watts
I'm rebuilding the heads the same way Grimmgreen and pbusardo do in their videos.
Using 32g kanthal and 3mm silica wick both from myvaporstore.com
The problem is every build I do tastes like rubber or has no airflow.
Ive been able to curb the airflow issue a bit by using to wick sitting on top of the coil.
The only thing I can imagine is that the coil is getting hot legs and burning the rubber grommet that holds the +/- wires down in the base. The coils are 6 wraps usually coming out around 2.4 ohms.
Not sure if I'm missing something here but I seem to be doing everything right and it still tastes rubbery.
Im using my ADV juice which is chimp berries by vapervenue.com
any help would be appreciated.

try going 5 wraps and dial the wattage down to around 7-8 see if that helps.

8 watts is the max wattage for 2.4 ohms. I would try lowering the voltage/wattage like Blue said.
