Ex-Smoker

Hello, new member here!

I quit smoking 3 years ago cold turkey and stayed quit for about a year. I had a difficult time coping (yes, even after a year), so I moved onto snus (basically like dip, but supposedly less harmful). During the past year and a half - two years, I have been a chain snuser and I'm finding that I probably use snus too much. Plus, new regulation has made it almost as expensive as buying analog cigs.

I still miss smoking (but not the smell -- that I don't miss AT ALL), and would like to try weening myself off snus and onto e-cigarettes (sounds strange, doesn't it?), but I'm reading that you should not use e-cigarettes if you're not a smoker. Would that pertain to me? If so, why?

Also, I would prefer to use liquid since it's the cheapest way to go. From what I'm reading, you can spend $25 on liquid and get the equivalent of 10-20 cartons. What would be the best e-cigarette (or system, or starter kit) to buy that I could use with liquid?

Thanks for your help!

Where did you read all this from? Lots of people here use e-cigs in addition to smoking or other tobacco products. Not sure you can get THAT much out of $25 of liquid. For me, 20 cartons of cigarettes would have been over 4 months of smoking. I spend about $10/week on my ecig. Not the $100/year price tag you were hoping for, but much better than the $2,000/year price tag of cigarettes.

There are a lot of good kits out there. I believe the Volt as mentioned by scurry is what is considered a "small battery" e-cig that looks more like a regular cigarette than the "big battery" ecigs. I would recommend starting out with a big battery ecig first. You'll eventually get tired of having to carry around a charger or 5 batteries just to make it through the work day. With the big batt e-cigs, you should find one that will either last you all day on one charge or pretty close to it. Small battery ecigs generally only last for about 1-2 hours of use between charges. Of course, if you only vape for 5 - 10 minutes every few hours, then that 1 - 2 hours of use will last you quite awhile. Just depends on what you're going to use. Lots of people are going to come here and tell you what they use and guarantee you it's better than anything else. I say go read up on the different e-cigs and the tons and tons of information out there instead of listening to the advice you get in this one thread. There are so many options out there, don't limit yourself to the 3 or 4 ecigs/mods you'll read about here.

I would say that if you're not a smoker, you shouldn't start smoking but since you are using snus for nicotine anyway, an ecig is a MUCH better route than lighting up again. You could even go zero nicotine liquid to satisfy your "smoking" satisfaction along with the snus.

If you make it your own liquid, it's much cheaper. Juice prices vary from vendor to vendor. Making your own zero nicotine liquid would be the cheapest yet.

That's a recommendation for people who have never smoked or been addicted to nicotine in other forms and just want to try e-cigs "for fun". I don't know who those people might be, but the point is there is no need to become addicted to the nicotine in e-cigs if you're not already addicted to nicotine or smoking.

It's the same thing as recommending that people not start chewing nicotine gum or using nicotine patches if they aren't already addicted to nicotine.

Since you are trying to avoid taking up smoking again and to switch from snus, this recommendation does not really apply to you.

The Volt looks awesome. Thanks for the tip.

I use the Volt, and really like it. It's the "next generation" of KR808 batteries (regulated so they maintain the same voltage level throughout a charge instead of decreasing voltage over time), and they also have horizontal coil cartomizers (instead of vertical coil). That combination leads to a smoother vape, vs. the hotter vape of the original KR808's.
