I've searched, but not had any luck in finding an answer to my question.

I'm about to go on a Loooong flight, five hours on AA to New York (from Los Angeles), then a 10 hour flight to Israel, on El Al.

I'm wondering if anyone has experience vaping on a flight.

I'm dreading the flight.

Background... I've been vaping for about a month, but continue to smoke. I'm not sure what it is, I REALLY want to quit completely, but find myself vaping for about five, six hours, then breaking down, and grabbing an analog cig!

Well, in two weeks, I won't have that option!

Has anyone vapped on a flight? If it's dark in the plane, and I'm on the inside seat with only my kids next to me, do you think I'll be alright vaping on occasion? How about vapping the the mens room? Would the vapor set the smoke detectors off? I wouldn't think so, but not sure.

I also mentioned what airlines, as I think El Al may be more lenient re vapping then American Airlines (I hear El Al is very lenient about luggage over 50lbs., for example)

Any thoughts or experience that would help me?

also, feel free to share if you also went a month or so before finally switching completely to vapping, and if anything specific helped.

I've recently started using Halo, and it doesn't make me cough nearly as much as previous juice did, and it also tastes great, so... WHY CAN'T I MAKE A COMPLETE SWITCH?????

so... WHY CAN'T I MAKE A COMPLETE SWITCH?????

Hit the "Search" button in the upper right of this New Members forum, enter "airline" and you'll get a ton of threads on the subject.

As for your concern about making a complete switch, stop saddling yourself with undue pressure because of the big "Q" word. Relax and enjoy your vaping experience.

If you occasionally need an analogue, have one without guilt. Give yourself time and the switch will happen, painlessly and almost effortlessly. You'll eventually find vaping a lot more enjoyable than smoking.

This has been my experience and the experience of many members. I'm not completely off analogs yet but I know will by the end of summer...that's the timeline I gave myself.

As one member recently posted, "don't sweat it." So relax and enjoy the journey!

I spoke to an airline pilot here on the forum and he said that vaping on the plane was not allowed. Dont vape in the bathroom because it will set off the fire sensors which are triggered by the smoke and not the heat. If you do vape in the bathroom or in your seat use a handkerchief and blow the vapor into that. If people see smoke they will freak out and think that there is a fire.

There are still people who are ultra sensitive and probably think you are a terrorist. I wouldn't even try it, even if I was fiending so bad I might cry.

It seems like this sort of choice would a)get you shot b)get you arrested or c)shot, arrested, and beat up.

Also, don't wear black near schools and try not to drive white vans anywhere, ever.

I'm not trying to be funny or tongue-in-cheek, either. A lot of people, thanks to a number of reasons, live in complete fear for about 24/7. So, remember, everyone out there in the world is probably bat-s*** crazy and won't hesitate to stomp your face.

I couldn't even imagine trying to make it through security with tiny heating elements, batteries, and mysterious bottles of what may or may not be hyper bomb juice. To the untrained eye (everyone ever) you have all the ingredients to a nuclear bomb.

I fly all the time and I can tell you that the screeners know what an e-cig is and I have taken my stuff through in a carry on several times. And no, they don’t allow vaping on a plane. At least Southwest, Delta and American doesn’t and on a southwest flight once the flight attendant even said into the microphone “No smoking or vaping” I almost fell out of my seat! I asked her about it afterwards and it turned out they had a meeting with their employees about e-cigs. You can carry them on but not use them on the plane. That being said, I stealth vape on the plane allllll the time! But like FritzC said, people will freak out if they see the smoke (Vapor).

This past March I traveled from Portland, OR to Germany then on to Egypt and back. I flew Delta and KLM with a stop in Amsterdam. I stealth vaped there and back, carried my Chuck openly. No problems. In Amsterdam at the security check, did have on inspector quetion what my Chuck was. Once i got him to let me demo it for him, big smiles all around. I carried my batteries in my purse in plastic toothbrush holders seperated by a piece of cardboard. My liquid in small bottles in a ziplock baggie.

Well you kind of HAVE to carry the batteries with you as you can't check Li-Ion batteries - they must be taken as hand luggage. I only just learned this myself lol which is fortuitous as Im going back across the pond this year for a bit so I wouldve packe my batteries without thinking.
As for not giving up entirely - really dont worry about it - I smoked for 10 days after I got my 510 (my banner starts from the day I stopped) and it didnt bother me, I just did what felt right for ME (even if that meant I never gave up totally) and that's what you should do :)

I went to Mexico in April on AA, had no problems with security and had all my hardware in my carry on. I put my liquid in my zip-lock bag. No questions were asked. They do have a no e-cig use on the plane policy, but I did it anyway. Just cover up the led so it won't be noticed, and hold the vapor so when you exhale there won't be a big cloud, and blow anything that does come out down at the floor! I also vaped in the restroom on the plane, just blew it down to the floor. Also vaped in restroom at airport, no problems! I also didn't stop smoking analogs right away, it took me a couple of weeks. Go at your own pace, you will get where you want to be! Good luck and happy traveling

I would suggest simply asking the stewardess on the first leg of your flight, then going with nicotine gum for the trip to Israel, as they take their security quite seriously.

Flying to the US from Europe, I simply told a stewardess what the e-cig was (calling it a nicotine vaporizer just to avoid confusion about the smoke part), that I had just quit smoking, and could I use it during the flight? She went to ask the captain, came back, and said they were "proud of me for quitting", yay. People usually get it, as long as you're polite and casual about it - stealth vape, act like you're doing something weird, and chances are that's exactly how people will take it.

Of course, they might say no on your particular flight, but that's where the gum comes in!

i work with a lady who vaped on a flight from Hawaii to California and had no problem. the flight attendants thought is was the koolest thing ever. i forget the airline she flow.
i do think asking is the best route to go. good luck with your adventure.
has for how long to switch it is different for everyone. i am one of the lucky one who vaped once and never looked back. had this helps a little bit.

I just had a business trip to OH and noticed that in the Delta magazine it stated the usual No smoking statement and also had "(e-cigarettes)" stated!

Yes, Delta added no e-cigs to their prohibitions. Many businesses simply do not want to have to deal with people seeing anything that might look like smoke. I have seen people freak out on planes because the air conditioner blew out a vapor trail. I don't blame them for not wanting to deal with it.

Just go to the bathroom to vape. Unless you blow huge amounts of vapor directly into the smoke detector it won't notice and there is no smoke smell, so no one will care.

Just my $0.02:

DO NOT VAPE ON A PLANE. While you can easily get away with it, and plenty of people do it...the chances of causing a scene and ruining it for all of us are quite high, especially if you are on an international flight.

That being said, there are good tips in this thread on how to get away with it, if you absolutely cannot survive a flight w/o vaping.
