Yeah... You are Probably Right.

I just hope when it Does Happen, it Isn't on a Crowed Downtown Bus. Or at a vape Meet.

Anyone with any sense of aethetics or disinclination to be around gross dirtiness would see that nasty towel of his and give him PLENTY of space. :D

As for the pipe bomb comments, I think readers can take this away from such things being said, "the majority of people who use such mods are not in the least pleased with this fellow being in our ranks, and if by some run of luck he sees our posts we would like him to know our displeasure"

For the most part we want folks to be as safe as is possible for their own good, and for the good of the community that contains us all.

We did not create this event, no matter how unfortunate it is the one person that can take responsibility for it ran away from the situation like a coward. We can argue the fight, flight, or freeze thing till the cows come home from the slaughter house but the fact remains this dude bailed.

We are angry, I am furious that something I've found so helpful in my life is under such close scrutiny that we can't feel free to discuss an unfortunate event for fear that it might add fuel to the fire against our own cause.

Not a single day goes by where a smoker does not die from his or her choice of poison. I think world wide from the very inception of vaping we can count on one hand the number of credible injuries of any serious magnitude related to the use of our own unique poison.

To me the numbers themselves show just how much less harmful vaping is in the grander scheme of things.

There is an idiot on every corner, I quite enjoy the fact that we can point directly at them and call them out. And furthermore it is important to tell the world, its this guy right here who is the idiot, not our entire community.

Having read through the entire thread I find this discussion both a very useful and very important on a number of levels:

1. The incident has brought the possibility of catastrophic battery failure from the theoretical realm, for so many of us, to reality. This is no longer the stuff of “believe me this will happen if………….”;
2. The general reasons for the failure are obvious battery/mod abuse with the exact cause a matter of speculation;
3. We are all responsible for the well being of our fellow vapers and the community as a whole;
4. The unfortunate reality is, yes, this will get out in the general media and we all know how it will be spun.
5. We are all witness to the misinformation used by politicians, bureaucrats and all the other ANTZ’s out there. I say this having spent 3 hours on Monday in a Toronto Board of Health meeting. They want to put vaping back into the smoking pits. A foregone conclusion, I nonetheless made a deputation. We still have to stand up and be heard;
6. We can’t be afraid to have these discussions for fear of “it getting out”, and;
7. We have to call it out when we see something wrong or someone such as that individual with the bad haircut promoting unsafe vaping because what he does affects us all.

NOTE: My definition of sub-ohming is: 0.8 Ohms on a Patriot dripper with a rotating pair of Sony V5 batteries (purchased expressly for my type of “sub-ohming”) on a Chi_You. I only sub-ohm in my man cave with the door closed and all the ventilation turned off and pretend I’m California cloud blowing. That’s my walk on the wild side.

Think about this, anyone who remembers Watergate. If Nixon had called out the guys that broke into the Watergate hotel, he wouldn't have been in nearly as much trouble -- it was the covering up of the incident that cost him his job. When you have a secret, you have a weakness. The only way to be strong and unafraid is to have no secrets, to be an open book. That way there is nothing that can be used against you -- the unvarnished truth is your best defense.

I'm all about taking off the warning labels & letting the problem sort out itself, but I'm very against involving others in such ... 'activities'.

That roughly sums up my outlook on life. I could give a crap what you do or how you do it, as long as it doesn't bother anyone else or prevent them the same. By bother I don't mean just kill or injure, but adversely & legitimately affect in any way, shape or form.

I hear ya, but I doubt the promoters have any more facts about what happened than we do right now. IMO their interests are probably better served by staying quiet. They certainly have nothing to gain by trying to help vapers or the vape industry. We're on our own here.

In todays video by PBusardo A PBusardo Video & Contest Winner - VapeBlast 2.0 - YouTube at about the 7:29 mark he says that the event coordinators on the following day cancelled the contest and replaced it with a battery safety class.

I have seen no disagreement that the explosion happened in close proximity to the cloud contest. That means the promoters/and or their employees were right on the spot. If they don't know what the mod/battery were and whether or not the mod and/or its switch had been user modified it is willful ignorance.

I am not sympathetic to the argument that the promoters should not help the community that has put bread on their table. :(

As others have also said, I believe the person was not a contestant and so far no one knows who he is including the promoters and/or their employees. There was one account of events I read on Reddit that suggested the person had been having his atty filled with juice by an employee, he pulsed the mod and that's when the problem started, but I don't believe that is correct.

The mod is known and the mod is suspected of having been modified in the switch area. I don't know if the modification is verified. No one knows what battery was used.

I did not argue that the promoters should not help the vape community. I believe it is in their best interest to look out for themselves first and staying quiet about this incident is IMO the best deal for them. IMO they and their lawyers would agree with that ;)

Peace peraspera and vape on :)

boston was a pipe bomb, this was a battery venting, get some perspective

When you have a rapid expansion of gas in a well enough sealed pipe and the pipe explodes, that's a pipe bomb. The Boston bombs were pressure cooker bombs. Same principle, different hardware used.

I realize where you're coming from TheRac, but IMO you're letting your aversion to the use of the term 'pipe bomb' in this instance cloud your judgement (pun not intended).

The really sad part of this behavior Mr. Dangerous Fruit Loop is showing in his videos is at some point he will get hurt. My father, as a very young boy found "something metal" when he was digging in a large pile of dirt near a construction site. It happened before he was school age, so we're talking 1930ish. He and his friend decided they wanted to open it, and my father held it while his friend hit it with a rock. His friend died in the explosion, my father lost most of his hand, including his thumb and had a lot of shrapnel injuries. My dad adapted well but if this guy could see what could be his future perhaps he'd wake up before he loses parts he'd prefer to keep.

For those that think the community had no part in this, below are links to threads that as of this posting are all on the front page of the newbies forum

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/new-members-forum/595598-what-your-first-mech-mod.html

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...-dual-18650-mosfet-continuous-fire-issue.html

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/new-members-forum/596017-looking-new-mech-mod.html

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/new-members-forum/596018-help-drilling-out-rda.html

I read most of the threads and there wasn't a word about safety or any advice that perhaps they should invest in a good quality regulated device instead of a mech. Some of these folks have been around since...... August 2014.......

A whole lot of people on this thread are putting all the responsibility on the person who's mech blew, but he is nothing more then an end result of the ignorance that has been going on within a part of the community that is pushing extreme vaping (and acting as if it is the norm). The community has to take a good part of the blame for pushing the illusion that mech's with ultra low ohm's (I would also add ultra high watt regulated devices) are some sort of vaping nirvana.

I just had a look at the video and I saw green, not orange at 3:38. Did I miss it?

Around 2:38 it should be. Typed or thought wrong first time around.

It was the only battery I could find where the writing matched and was a 26650 with "60A" rating. I strongly suspect that is an inflated rating, as other, comparable batteries state 30A continuous and 60A burst. That is... of course... unless some rather unknown brand of batteries has come up with a chemistry twice as good as anyone elses.
