How about just Not Doing Cloud Blowing Contests?
Or is that Too Much of a Buzz Kill?
Let's go to another extreme... How about not vaping?...
I'm only trying to say just because it isn't for you, or you don't see the point doesn't mean it shouldn't be allowed. Look at it from a non smokers prospective... Abstinence is the best way!... :S
as someone who prefers a large cloud myself, cloud comps are a bad idea. It was only a matter of time before something like this happend. There will always be dumb people who buy sketchy gear and try to push it to its limit, that's a given. Once you throw in a competitive aspect, it's just a recipe for distaster.
How about go back to land lines. Cell phones fail too you know. So sorry it's not a perfect little world.

Verifying the battery is simple, kind of. You do what the local shop here does. Provide a fully charged safe to use battery. U understand things can happen with the battery, but if you provide safe charged batteries it lessens the issues.
How about this:

Nothing to do with Sub ohm Vaping
Nothing to do with Clone Mods(Getting sick of this one)
Nothing to do with Political agendas
Just one simple numbskull that damn near got someone hurt for lack of having a clue.
Now for one suggestion:
12" Tall x 6" diameter Cast Pipe with Quick Clamp Cap and Vents for any future competitions.
Any malfunction is an immediate drop and lock. No harm No Foul.
I got an idea.... there are all sorts of safety gear required for many different things... how about issuing super sub ohmers this to keep them safe??

If you want to Do Cloud Blowing Contests at Vape Meets, and if that's what Makes people Happy, Go Right Ahead.
This stuff happens. Egos sometimes explode. Charging your phone with your cigarette lighter with a crappy adapter could melt your dash. Personally I think this is an "acceptable risk" ... Look at all the car accidents that happen, not including DUI, but we still drive cars because it is an acceptable risk... Personally I think these kinds of things will happen, the best we can do is try and share knowledge (yay for ECF!) and do our best to encourage safety. Even with these events (few and far between as they are) it's still better than the numbers for cigarettes... Even those are responsible for the occasional house fire...

That's because they aren't contained inside a metal tube with no way for the gas to escape. Gunpowder burns (really fast) when it's in the open, but if you pack in into a cardboard tube it explodes.
I read this guy was using a mod that didn't have venting in the top (where batteries are designed to fail at) and didn't have a locking mechanism either. Probably running a build way over his batteries amp limit too.
The whole idea of a cloud chasing competition sounds dumb to me. It's like a beer drinking contest, only a matter of time before someone gets alcohol poisoning, or in this case, blows their hand or face apart.
My bad. Trying to come up with a logical safety solution to quick. Yes, even a thick Aluminum would be better than Cast as long as the pipe is well vented. We would want the Device to be able do dump freely yet be contained.
I'd Like to see the General Public's Perception of Vaping be more about Harm Reduction and people Quitting Smoking than Who can Blow the Biggest Cloud.
But ya, if your going to put on Contests, it wouldn't hurt to Try and make them Safe.
