I'm hoping it was not a mech, who would be $)(*)(*Q#$)U# enought to packed a mech mod loaded with a battery in a suitcase???

With how muddy the gene pool is these days.... I'm sure there are a lot of them! :)
Natural selection is trying to find its way back :p

One wonders if the fact that this was a 26650 mod had anything to do with it. Ostensibly the larger battery could vent a larger volume of gas faster. I have heard of 18650 mods venting but not exploding.

If the mod was vented properly the size shouldn't make a difference.

Size affects what "vented properly" even means. Size means a whole lot, it's a direct translation between the size of the battery and the energy available for an explosion. This is the most violent explosion of a PV I have ever heard of.

A larger battery also could mean a weaker tube.

This is certainly the worst explosion I have heard of since the run of stacked RCR123 cell issues a few years back. The cloud comps and such should be a fun part of a meet for those interested, but it does come at a greater risk everyday since not everyone is taught safety before walking out the door with a mech and rebuildable.

I think this explosion is worse than those, at least based on the descriptions of the damage. If this happened near someone's face, we may well have seen a fatality, or at least a life threatening injury, blinding, etc.

Yeah... I was just noticing that my new Vamo V2... has ONE vent hole. Looks like I need AW batteries for this thing too!

Andria

My Provari only has 1 vent hole.

Just to be Clear. Any Opening can Vent Battery Gases. So the Gap around a Power Button or +/ - Buttons can act as Vent Holes.

Most Mech Mods are just Tubes with a 510 Connection on One End. And a Cap with a Switch on the Other.

Personally I think the best thing is to do what we have always done in the past: use it as a teaching moment.

This is what I Hope will come Out of This Incident.

And that People will Realize that a Mod Can Explode if a Battery Vents and there is No Place for the Gases to go.

This should already be common knowledge for "advanced users"... Those that rebuild and those who use mechs.
If you are making modifications to your device, make sure it is still safe!

I Really Don't worry so much about the Advanced Users. ir: The People who have been around a little bit and have taken the Time to Learn Ohms Law, has done some Research on Batteries, and who Owns a Decent DMM.

It's the New Users that Kinda Scare me.

I Cringe when I read Threads about Someone who has Never Used an e-Cigarette, knows Nothing about Batteries, and then wants to know what Wire to buy to make a .3 ohm coil for their Brand New Mech Mod.
