There is this extra, thick brass ring that came with my Stingray clone.
What is it for?

That's exactly what it is. Used when the user wants to add a Kick by Evolv.

If you're talking about this little guy then it's a hybrid adapter, not a kick extension.

He did say brass. Then again he did say "ring" instead of disk. Of course, maybe he has a brass Stingray.

I love that adapter on my X. Wish I could get one for my PB Ray too but it is the original and has different threads than newer versions of the Stingrays.
