Facebook Scam

This morning on Facebook, who I thought was a friend, caught me on chat. She said she and hubby were in England and had been mugged. They were broke, with no credit cards, and wanted $800 bucks to see them through until they got home.
We called friend and she and hubby were at home. A scam artist got into her acct.
My friend’s hubby was trying to trace the scammer, but the scammer eventually figured out the jig was up and disconnected.
Since then I have run a moleware and virus checker on my computer to make sure it's safe before getting back online. I checked my email and I'd received a message wanting me to change my password.
Just wanted to you to be aware that there is a hacker/scammer, or whatever you want to call him, lurking about Facebook!!!
Don't fall for anything like this. If your friend says they are in trouble, call them!!!

I hate scumbags like that. Yeah, the old version of the scam involved people calling the elderly posing as a grandkid needing money bad.

If I was close enough to load a friend 800.00 I think I would be close enough to know if they were in Englad. But we do need to be careful.

We also need to be careful using your credit or debit card on line. Recently someone got mine and used it 3 times. If I had not been checking my banking account online I would have missed this. I had to cancel my debit card and it took 3 weeks go get another one. All of my auto payments had to be changed.

I know most people complain about pay pal but using this is much safer.

Most of the time that is true. We live in different states and the friends are retired and love to travel. Sometimes they just take off and go, so them being in England wasn't all that far fetched.

One of the NBC news shows did a story about this scam a week or two ago, involving a elderly woman that got taken for 4 G's. They hack a FB account and password and download your friends list and start sending out that message to everyone on it.

The wife and I have no money now to fly home. Since I am related to you by through the ECF... can you wire my like..ahh.... hold on Angus.... what honey? No....how much are the plane tickets to get home? NO! Im on the new speak and type trying to get ahold of AngusATAT...How much are the tickets??.....OK Im back... so the wife said the tickets are 14,000 dollars for the both of us... so at least send 7,000 dollars so I can get home...ha ha ha...Ok just send me a PM on the ECF with your bank account number and I will withdrawl the money myself...you know, that way you dont have to do anything. there has been a lot of this going on.. I have seen a few in the last month they are stuff like posts of fake videos.. the last group i saw was your *** looks good on video. when you go to open the video it says you need a codex to view it.. ( the trojan or key logger) there is some that run off activeX too.. so shut off activex and dont download the codex go to a legit site and download player updates..
