I have a question for the more experience mechanical mod folks out there. I receintly purchase some Flat top AW 18650 IMR 2000 mAh batteries from ebay. They don't have the CE RoHS monicer on the lable, and I have read the AW doesnt make flat top 18650 (I know, I know, give me a break I am a noob... should have researched first).

I sell on ebay and figured I figure I could sort out the fakes. After all the seller had 100% positive feed back. I paid $32.99 for 4 bats. Luckily i caught this before they shipped so I am trying to resolve this before they go out.

Has any one used the knock off AW bats? Obviously safety is top priority, other then less quality. Any thoughts? Anyone else out there got a refund from these sellers on eBay?

Welcome to the forum.

I don't know about people knowingly using knock off batteries, but they are out there. Personally, I am very picky about batteries. I'll use generic/clone/knock off/whatever clearos and tanks, but not batteries. Not only are they what you depend on for power - no battery, no vape - but they are the only thing you are using the might go thermal. It's highly recommended not to buy batteries off of eBay and stick with known vendors like RTD Vapor or Super T Manufacturing.

Agree 100% with The Ocelot. Very easy and inexpensive to re wrap old and/ or cheap batteries with new end plates. Many old laptop batteries end up being re wraps. Batteries not a place I'd want to scrimp on esp considering over the lifespan of high quality batts it amounts to pennies a day.

AW does not sell a flat top battery!!! All AW batteries are button top.
There are more counterfeit batteries out there than you can count. This makes WHERE you buy batteries more important than which battery you choose to buy.

I've had good luck with Efest batteries, and I'm most appreciative of Efest doing this.

Live and learn. Can always go to PayPal and have it resolved if the seller doesn't take care of you. PayPal is quick and decisive with resolving complaints. I have only had to use their buyers protection twice in the 15 years I've been using PP, and it was handled quickly and in my favor both times.

As stated, only buy batteries from trusted Vendors. Yeah and never heard of flat top AW batteries before either. I like eBay but some stuff I'd never buy from them, and one of them is batteries.

Any experience with useing a higher voltage AW battery like a 3400 mAh if I am using a Smoktech RSST Rebuildable Atomizer on top? I just ordered from fasttech so I have a few weeks to read up on coil/wick set up ( plan on reading up on rigging a rebuildable atomizer), do you have any reference for setting up a rebuildable atomizer? I hope I havent jumped into the deep water alittle to soon!

Best resource for reading up on batteries is Bad's Blog- highly recommended:

when it comes to rebuildable setup's more mah is not always the best. two batteries off hand that this is true for are the aw imr 18650's and the efest imr 18650's. Both come in 1600mah and 2000mah options. for both batteries in the 1600mah option they are 30amp batteries, which can safely handle a build as low as .2ohm. as where the 2000mah options are 10amp batteries and can only handle .5ohm. while using a rsst i doubt your going to be pushing .2ohm, but the 1600mah will leave more room for error when learning to build.

I own both mah options for the aw's, and they 1600 mah is more then enough to get me from home to work and back each day. thats running a .8ohm build and vape non stop in transit when I have access to a car. normally on my bike unless weather is funky. I also vape about 10 minutes every hour while at work.
