I get this jazz at work sometimes from a few guys... the "fake cigarette".. It doesn't really bother me, but then I started thinkin' that it was a big deal to not call vaping "fake smoking".. or ecigs fake. Perhaps I'm wrong, but I've convinced myself that vaping is entirely different from smoking. It appears to be the same in a lot of ways, but I still remain confident that it is... yes there is inhaling nicotine and most of them look like cigarettes, but is it really some variation of smoking?

I have lots of dismissive people at work when I'm out in the smoking shelter (tried all ways to get another area but we're banished to the smoking shelter at present). I've had a lot of smokers being very dismissive about vaping. One of these dismissive people is a very good friend. After some less dismissive people were asking me about them, and he heard me talking about them, he became curious, made the switch and now is a big advocate of vaping. Still, I encounter dismissive folk everyday. I now think 'well I've tried but it's your life and money you're wasting if you don't want to listen to me'. Three months on, the number of vapers are beginning to catch up with the smokers. Now to win the battle for a vaping area.

My friends say "why don't you just smoke real cigarettes, they look the same". I don't really feel like explaining it to them most of the time so I just shake my head and move on. I occasionally tell them "it costs half as much" or "I don't feel like smelling like smoke". But for the most part, people have to find out on their own how much better it is than smoking.

They definitely have to try it to understand. I'm glad that after trying my VS e-cig my cousin converted...1 down 20 million to go....

People are weird, I used to get that at my old job all the time. Then one person tried it and switched and it all changed. Both of my managers bought 510-t kits based on my reccomendation and pretty soon i had converted 3 people totally from analogs and the other two people that bought them did so they could smoke inside the store without having to go outside.

I tell people " I am going to pretend to smoke" that is the way I explain what I am doing rather than vaping. I use the vape related words for people that know me but in a crowd that does not know me I just say I am pretending as if I am holding the infamous chewed on pencil in my hand. It seems to make smokers realize I am trying to quit and there is another alternative to patches, gums and pills. If someone asks for more of an explanation I tell them all about my PV.

There have been times when I've felt the same way and didn't want to go through the whole explanation thing, but I almost always end up taking the time to explain it to them, especailly if they are a smoker. I figure if they end up making the switch because of what I've said to them, it's worth the time spent knowing you helped someone out who probably wasn't even looking for help.

Not a lot of people smoke at work...in fact, very little smoke out of about 400.

But one thing I noticed over the years is when it comes to oddities/novelties (e-cigs and PV being so new) peole are sceptic, then inquisitive, then interested.

The whole process can takes months for some.

Where I stand right now,is a few people came to me and ask questions on behalf of their parents/friends/relatives.

I give then a link to ECF as well as a couple more links to vendors in case they want to give it a shot!

Edit: vendors,do the pile of business cards in each orders,I surely wont ditch them.

I think I've decided that when people(non-smokers) who see me useing my PV say"your still smoking", Im just gonna punch them in the face and tell them "I'm still an a$$h@!& too".....

I'm just kidding, but I'd like too! I hate it when uneducated people try to insinuate something they really know nothing about..! Ignorance is my biggest pet peeve!!

+1 Hoosier. Smokers are skeptical because more than likely they've already been through the patches, gums, Chantix (God forbid) and feel that this is just another "thing" that doesn't work.

I can relate to this. When my neighbor told me about her e-cig and encouraged me to go get one from the drug store, I was like, "yeah, I'll have to check that out", but I didn't until she kept asking me about it.

I finally did go and check them out, and decided to buy one (this is pre-ECF for me). It was so hard to hand that money over to the cashier and she even had to kind of tug on it to get it out of my hand. LOL! I told her, "Sorry! I've just spent so much money on things that didn't work, and I'm reluctant to do that now." She was an e-cig user and understood what I was talking about.

Anyway, that was a crappy little unit, but it prodded me to research more and find ECF (I just ordered a Provari, thank you very much you pushers).

Oh, and my neighbor that originally encouraged me to go get one gave up the e-cig, saying it wasn't enough to get her off the cigs, and I could never get her to try something better.

I get asked if it's some electronic portable .... pretty much every day. I just explain what it is, then ask them if they want to try it, or smell the smoke. I usually carry a very sweet juice with me just for that purpose. My new favorite is Sinabon, and I exhale some of that and it really smells exactly like a cinnabon stand. They then understand, and usually ask how much it costs, what all is in it, etc. Take the time to explain it to them. You may just convert one more person to this much healthier, and more enjoyable, habit.
