I've just hit 1 year vaping. I'm currently using 2.1ohm predbuilt coils in an iClear X.I on a provari 2.5. I'm looking to splash out to celebrate my anniversary vaping. Looking at what's out there at the moment the subtank OCC coil looks like a dream build. I know there's no chance of running the 0.5ohm on the provari but could someone who owns one tell me how the 1.2ohm performs with high PG juice down at 7.5 - 14.1 Watts? (3.0 - 4.1 Volts) I'm not worried about clouds just floods and flavour.

I don't have the fluid cash on hand to get a more powerful mod at the moment but I don't want to splash out on the subtank only to find I can never use a prebuilt OCC. I might stray into RBA with the deck but I want the option of prebuilt.

Thanking you in advance.

You're gonna be running your provari wide open all the time, I think.

However, the picture below is my fav setting for 1.2 occ coil using max VG juice (which is not what you asked about but anyway) I can deep draw on this and make it foggy enough to not be able to see in front of me until the fog clears. 18watts is more of the same but not my fav for warmth of the vapor.

To answer your question: it's do-able (in a satisfying flavour sense) but pushing your mod to max all the time. You could use the RBA deck with single coils you build to higher ohms...1.5 ish and stress your mod less.

13 watts is 87.4% - 92.0% of max watts and 3.25 - 3.33 amp (92.9% - 95.2% max for device). So yeah, that'd be running pretty wide open. Does that do damage long term?
Assuming 90% efficiency 200% pulse and .1volt/.1amp droop then it pushes up towards the battery continuous amp limit 9.09A/10A

Do you vape at 7.5 watts because you prefer a cooler vape ?
I vape at 7.5 watts because higher than that and the coils taste burnt. With a fresh coil, well soaked, I can sometimes get away with 8 watts but not for long before burny burny. The 1.8ohms couldn't handle above 6.5W.

Right behind you...
I used my Subtank 1.2 OCC at around 15-18w for best results with a high VG juice. Rebuilt an old 0.5 ohm head to 1.4ohm with 28ga/3mm/KGD and run it at about 13-15w depending on juice, usually nothing with PG higher than 50%, and it's a good, fairly cloudy vape.

Personally, if I were you, I would skip the full size Subtank and get the 22mm Subtank Mini, as it has better airflow, same heads, better RBA (or rather better airflow with the RBA and no chimney replacement to use it), and it will look better on your Provari.

And the ease of rebuilding the OCC can't be understated...for me, it's easier to build and install a new coil and wick in the OCC heads than it is to use the large Subtank's RBA. Looks like it would be the same deal with the smaller RBA on the Mini, sans the hassle of chimney replacement.

EDIT: Just tried the 1.2 OCC at 8w and 10w with a 50/50 juice. Mediocre. It vapes, but the difference in vapor and flavor at 15w is pretty extreme. 13w is better, passable even, and 14w is even better but it really shines between 15-20w.

Hmm bit of a disagreement there about the lower wattage vaping on the tank, I'd definitely be looking at the mini rather than the nano or full size but running at 1.2ohms at 13 watts is pretty close to maxing out the limits of my system which is just asking for trouble. I'd be more comfortable at 3.8V which is 12W. Sadly that sounds like it won't get the best out of this device. More looking methinks. Shame, I really like the design of the OCC.

Agreed with ScandeLex here. I have used mine on my provari before. Works great. Tastes great b and the rebuild deck is always there as well Provaris are built
To
Perform. Worry more about the tank and your battery than that mod my firend. Lo
They do have a smaller sub tank comig out as well. You could look into an ErlPrinz. That's a great rebuildable tank. Or get a nautilus by aspire and drill the air hole out and use the bvc coils. All great options

It's about a five minute job to recoil an OCC to a resistance that suits you, probably the easiest to rebuild pre-built out there IMHO. And of course it's not that hard to use the RBA in the Mini either.

And your Provari is meant to run just fine "wide-open", else they would have made it lower wattage if there wasn't the headroom. The only concern I'd have is it's harder on batteries, but those are swappable and meant to be wear items anyway.

Been running this set up for a long time. I filled the tank with a 50/50 juice, and the 1.2 coil; vaped it from 7w to 14w and it was just fine. I've gotten 4 tanks (24ish ml) out of the first coil, and it's still fine.
You're right about the OCC being awesome. I pulled the coil and wick out of the .5 coil as the Provari won't run it anyway, and rebuilt it at 1.5ohm. The pic above has the rebuilt coil in it, 90VG/10PG juice, and running at 10watts. It's working and wicking like a champ, no dry hits, no leaks.
I've had one leak on this thing and it was user error. The first coil I re-wicked, didn't have enough cotton in it. Took me all of 2 minutes to change the cotton and get back to vaping.
I've been using mechs/rdas/rtas for the better part of a year now, and this has been taking over. I love this tank.

I have 2 provari 2.5's and I'm wanting to get the kanger sub tank mini also but my question is how do you know the watts your Vaping at? The 2.5 only shows volts? I've been Vaping for almost 2 yrs. Started on halo triton tank then quickly switched over to provari but I've been wanting to start making my own wicks to save cash and this looks like a great starter tank/RDA for a newbie like me. Thanks fire any and all help!:eek:
