Public Dockets for Comment

In addition to supporting PVs / E-cigs, it's important to support keeping all products on the market that can be used as safer alternative to smoking. Currently FDA is seeking comments on dissolvables.

"The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is establishing a public docket to provide an opportunity for interested parties to share information, research, and ideas on how use of dissolvable tobacco products may impact public health, including such use among children. This information will be used to support the work of the tobacco Products Scientific Advisory Committee, which is charged with evaluating this issue."

Dissolvables are formed from finely milled tobacco that has been pasteurized like Snus to remove the majority of tobacco related nitrosamines. The most common form of dissolvable is a pellet like those available under the Stonewall, Ariva, and Camel Orbs brand names but RJ Reynolds is also test marketing Camel Strips, and Camel Sticks as well.

The fact that dissolvables use whole tobacco, these are a good option for people who feel they are "missing something" in electronic cigarettes but still want or need a smoke-free alternative. For me, it is the act of smoking seeing the visible vapor that most satisfies, but I keep a pack of the Camel Strips on hand for situations where I can't vape for any reason or on the rare occassion that an analog sounds tempting...I can pop a strip in my mouth for a minute or two (they last a little longer but work and taste similar to Fresh "breath strips").

OK Vocalek, Submitted my comment. Got a tracking number to see if it gets to be public record. Some how I dough it tho. FDA is on a mission to justify there existence. But basically I said the following.
Ref. FDA-2010-N-0123
Don't we already have laws that control marketing of tobacco ? Then enforce that. Keep this product and all reduced harm tobacco products out of reach of children and others not of consenting age. But do keep them available to consenting adults who would otherwise smoke.

The only comments available for public viewing were from what I supect were the Anti.'s. You know the "Oh this product will be marketed to children. ect " B.S. Thus the comment about the laws aready on the books and inforcement.
