well guys i think i have had my fill of the did.I have done everything correctly ie oxidising the hell out of the mesh and wire, wrapping it right, and all my vamo tells me is lo ohms ? I HAVE had it burning ok,then the ohms just seem to drop off.I am willing to give it one more go if you can suggest anything i haven`t already tried, other than that it will be retired

thanks in advance

Terry,

You might try giving the SS Mesh Wick a thin coating of cotton in the area of the wick that the coils go around. As long as you have juice in your tank, the cotton won't burn and this makes your SS Mesh pretty much "short proof".

If the video doesn't appear below, search on You Tube for "Mesh/Cotton hybrid wick Bluegrasslover's method"

There must be something not right as i use several vv/vw/ with mesh wicks with no problem.
One day when you have the time go and try it again once you get it right it will give you the confidence to try it more and you will only get better at it .

In the mean time go what what you feel comfortable with you can always play around with the mesh wick when your enjoying your favorite vape on another type of setup.

I gave my DID 2 weeks of trying. Once I got the coil/mesh setup right, it gunked-up fast. 2 days before I needed to figure out how todry burn the wick while the wick was still submerged in nicquid. It was too much effort for a simple vape.

I am a modder, so I built a VW bottomfeeder. I use my A7 BF RBA exclusively, now. Nextel ceramic wick can be burned repeatedly, and a couple drops of nicquid is all I have to burn off to dry-burn.

i am sure there is more to it for you, but the low ohm reading could only mean that you need another wrap on the wick. for the vamo any ohms under like 1.4 is going to give you an error message. for this particular problem, like i said you would need to up the ohms by using more wire, or use a mechanical mod. but obviously there is more to succesfully getting a genny to work period. now i dont know if you have a real did or a knock-off, but i had tried one of those fake dids and to me they are alot harder to get working properly then the real one. mostly because of the working space and the mechanics of it. good luck.

With the Vamo the cutoff is at 1.2ohms...but you want your build to be way above that so you don't get low ohms error message. So try to set up a coil that is 1.8ohms minimum. IF you are already doing that then you have a short. I suggest you do the petar k method of doing coils.....with his method you don't even need to oxidize your mesh. Right now I vaping on an unoxidized mesh on my vamo....it is the best vape ever. Here is the link:

Been using genisis here for a long time... I know it is not for everyone, but my builds last me months and I do not fiddle with them unless I have to. I use a modified Petar K method. Build my coil around an appropriate sized drill bit, then roll my wick to the size that it will slide into the coil. My wicks are 400/500 mesh, torched, then rolled solid, no quenching or burning eliquid or with a lighter etc. It allows for me to slide the wick out and burn/clean the coil. The wick is never tight in the wick hole, sort of loose actually. When I first started, it was a long time learning what worked, and didn't for ME. So there is a learning curve for what works for you. Once you get it, you just get it, and it works wonderfully, especially after a break-in. You also learn what doesn't work for you in that process.

Also, what is nice about genisis mesh/coil setups. You get to see exactly how your eliquid is vaporizing. If it is gunking up terribly in a short period of time, I wouldn't vape it. That build up tells you how cleanly (or not) your e-liquid vapes. On my setups, Boba's Bounty leaves a bit of stuff behind (and I usually do a weekly wick pull and burn the coil), Backwoods Brew is terrible and leaves a lot of gunk (so I do not vape it anymore), HHV burns realtively clean, as does PLUID and other AVE liquids... I have had setups last 3 months with daily use little to no effort in cleaning. All depending on the e-liquid.

As far as your current issue. As already suggested and linked... Do the cotton method just under the coil as a stop gap so you can enjoy. Requires very little cotton, and works a treat. I have used it a few times when I have gotten frustrated with one I was setting up and just couldn't get it right. Then later when you get the gumption, try it again in the traditional mesh/coil setup. Eventually you will get it, and reap the rewards.

The secret is...the wick should be in the coil rather loosely....you should be able to easily slide it in and out of the coil for cleaning. Everyone who starts wrapping coils in the beginning, wrap their coils around the wick tightly and then they keep getting shorts. They think if they keep re-oxidizing their wicks they will make the shorts go away...it won't. I been there and done that. If you make a perfect coil with a drill bit and then make your wick fit inside the coil in a loose fashion....you won't get shorts even when your wick is unoxidized.
