I have not smoked for many years now. Recently I decided to try out an e-cigarette just to see what it was like, and ordered a kit from Smart Smoker. For the last 3 days I have smoked daily around 2-3 cigarettes equivalent from it. Apart from the obvious pleasure from the nicotine, it feels a little like I have smoked real cigarettes, i.e. like there is something in my lungs with a slightly breathless feeling.

This doesn't make sense given that the e-cig only (at least per the manufacturer's website) contains nicotine, water and a tobacco flavouring.

Any idea what is given me that feeling ?

Cheers !

Going from smoking to vaping directly, I can't say it feels anything like smoking at all. I don't really get a "pleasure" feeling from nicotine. I don't really get nicotine cravings at all, other than getting a little edgy without it for a while. Nothing at all like when I would be without a cigarette for any length of time. But I have to ask why would you want to re-addict yourself to something that has been out of your system for so long?

It does take a while for the effects of smoking to be better. I found I was coughing a lot for the first month or so but feel great now. There is a lot of shtuff that is in your lungs if you have smoked and the damage may not ever fully go away. I can say now I can run 3 miles without a problem whereas on cigarettes it would have just about killed me. I realize your experience may be different than mine since you have not smoked for a long while. For you it may just be reintroducing something into your lungs...which brings up the question WHY

Some people who used to smoke find themselves vaping because they really miss smoking. For a lot of us it is such an enjoyable thing to do, but we cannot risk the health decline. Vaping gives us the opportunity to do a similar activity without having the negative health risks. How do I know? I quit smoking for 6 years, then started again because I missed it so much...now I vape. It's really OK for people to just want to vape, ya know.

For one thing there's more in the e-liquid than just water & flavor, it's based with either propylene glycol or vegetable glycerin and then nicotine and flavorings are added. The site you bought your stuff from doesn't list what's in theirs so I have no idea, could be something else in it that's causing your problems. Your best bet would be to try some of the suppliers listed on this forum and get something you can find out what's in it, it would be a lot safer.

Oh, I understand that but i know that if I ever gave it up completely and then wanted to go back, I'd probably go the no-nic route. But that's just me and I was just curious. :)

Nothing wrong with the question at all...or being curious. I don't know if I could have been satisfied with the no-nic route though. But then again, I haven't tried it. I vape everything from 18-35 mg and I can't tell a bit of difference, so I might do well with zero nic. Anyway...I digress...

Thanks for your replies. Maybe the effects could be imagined/ associated with the sensation in my lungs I used to have when I smoked .... Or the effect of inhaling nicotine produces a lingering sensation in the chest ?

The reason I started is partially because I am going through a tough time in my life at the moment, and over the last few years when I have had a tough time I have turned to cigs just for one day- less than 10 cigs. But also, just out of curiosity, to experience a safe high- I am not worried about the addictivity of the nicotine, I know that if I want to stop then I won't have a problem with that.

...80+-% of the juice is made up of glycol/glycerin and that is what gives you the vapor hit and that is probably what you are feeling in your lungs...and maybe the nic giving a throat hit...the juice could also contain some pure grain alcohol which could contribute to both of those....................

Cheers. It's PG, according to the manufacturer's website. Looks to be harmless, as long as it is then I won't worry !

I get a little breathless if I vape too much very strong nic liquid. It goes away quickly. Listen to your body. It'll tell you if you're vaping too much. As for the 'high' part... I don't experience a high with nicotine. I'm just addicted to it.

I haven't smoked for 2.5 yrs and the reason I took up vaping is I really wanted to smoke again. And I figured vaping was a better choice than anologs. I vape 12 to 18 mg depending how I feel. I tried 0mg and it didn't do what I needed it to do. I think it's really hard to became and stay a non smoker. I'm just grateful for the advancements in technology and the creation of PV's.

Happy vaping :)

This may be a strange comment from a newbie so please feel free to disregard. I am concerned when people refer to getting "high" from nicotine. There is an implication that this is somehow like smoking drugs which is offensive to some and could be a deterrant for those looking for a safe way to quit tobacco.

Just for clarification purposes, as with analogs, we do not get "high." Nicotine, for most, is like coffee - there is a stimulant and an addictive quality but the effects are not similar in any way to recreational or illegal substances.

I'm not passing judgement but feel that these types of statements, while not posted with any malintent, may misrepresent the community and further the lack of acceptance of our choice to be healthy and tobacco free.

Sorry if I offended anyone, just felt strongly about this.

I think the "high" people are talking about is the "buzz" or light headed feeling. That said, I've never been "high" from smoking analogs or from vaping. I do see your point though...and I agree with what you're saying. Nobody gets "high" from vaping nicotine juice. I have gotten that "buzz" though on several occasions.
