That's kind of a bummer. For me it's fun puffing out my little clouds with 100% VG, but it doesn't satisfy the urge to smoke. To do that, I have to have between 20 & 50% PG.

In my little tanks, I haven't really noticed much throat hit from nicotine, no matter the level.

What mg level do you vape? I'd suggest more PG, but if you like the thick clouds but not the PG irritation, I guess that's not really an option -- there's this other stuff called flash, supposedly makes the TH better, but I'm not really sure it's all that effective. I've also heard that diluting just slightly with high-proof grain alcohol is supposed to make it harsher, providing more TH.

Most of the time I vape 2 different levels. 1 for most of the day, when it's just about getting my nicotine, then it's a 15mg blend. After work, it's a 3 mg blend if I want to play steam engine. Otherwise, a 6mg fluid, as I don't want to be jacked up at night.

Tried an extraction on some Winstons, prior to reading anything on DIY, just relying on my Biochem/Organic chem background that used 95% ethanol. - Not entirely satisfactory, but even though I left some ethanol in, I didn't notice much TH mixed with 100% VG.

Hmmm... I mentioned that I get my Virginia from myfreedomsmokes.com , and that they also have a "W" flavor, supposed to be quite like Winstons. I normally vape MFS' PG-blend, but I once had to get some of their VG-blend when they were out the PG kind, and even at 6mg, even with 85% VG, there was still *some* throat hit. So maybe their VG-blend "W" flavor would suit you?

Or, you might want to try out that Flash stuff for yourself, see if it helps any. I got it at ecigexpress.com; pretty reasonable, about $3.39 I think.

The sensation described by the OP most likely relates to irritation of the mucous membranes inside the nasal passages caused by the vaporized juice. This will happen no matter the PG/VG ratio, and is, at least in part, caused by nicotine itself; but also by the fact that the vapor is irritating to this sort of tissue. Anyone can easily replicate the sensation by attempting to french-inhale vapor (Caution: this stings!).

In my experience, the sensation in the nose correlates well to the amount of throat hit your vapor gives. Thus, airy plumes with high VG and little TH, tend to be less irritating to the nose than tight draws with high PG juice that also packs substantial TH.
