Hello everyone,

I haven't smoked a cigarette since 2008, back then I had a really craptastic E-Cig that I bought when in Iraq. It helped, but it was really aweful, so aweful it helped me quit smoking. I had an e-cig from V2 in 2011 last year, and I enjoyed it but once again the horrible mail service to my post dried up all the carts. Fast forward to a few days ago. I was at the pub and everyone was smoking.

I absolutely hate the smell of smoke, but my oral fixation to inhale vapor kicked in. I ran around the corner and of course purchased a cheap one from Cigex. It of course didn't work well but it was a great substitute. So last night I was researching vapor cigarettes and once again, I was amazed at how big this lifestyle kicked up. So here is my question.

I'm looking for a really high quality vapor device. Something like a Golden Greek, but I'm confused as to what everything is, what I should look for and what I should not get. I'd really like a reliable piece of equipment, something that I can take overseas. I do a a lot of traveling through hotter, drier climates, but I'm air conditioned for the most part. Provari looks like it'd be a quality device as well but I'm still confused on what everything does. I don't want a drip, but those clear cylinder tanks amaze me. Money is no problem, but I'd like to get something that will blow large amounts of vapor. Good battery and such. Reliability.

I appreciate the help everyone.

Welcome to ECF Smooth Operator! I'm new here myself, and very new to vaping, so I can't offer up any good advice on which device would suit your needs. I'm sure someone with lots of experience will see this and have some great suggestions for you. Myself, I'm seriously looking at buying a Silver Bullet, i cannot get it off my mind, as I sit here vaping away on my little 510, lol

A lot of it depends on whether or not you want to get into variable voltage. VV allows you to change the voltage according to the carto, atty and/or juice you are using for the best vapor and flavor; I haven't gone there yet so I can't say. For portable and fuss-free maybe a Reo or Vmod. Here they are so you can take a look:

Welcome Smooth Operator!!! I'm new too, but I have been five and under until I finally kicked the last analog last week. Her is what I just posted, my two cents for another person who was looking for a new set up.

KGO from Hoosier Ecig supply (under $50). While your budget is up to $200 I would say at first, Provari, by the time you buy your cartos and play with juices you will easily spend your two hundred quickly. I was a heavy smoker and the KGO is a good starter kit, inexpensive, long lasting, with a lot of vape and throat hit.

The advice to me was to start out with something inexpensive so you could have more money to spend on cartos and juices to find your sweet spot. That has boded well for me. If I take off my initial Greensmoke I've spent around $350 in a month on Cartomizers and Juices.... I'm finally starting to feel like I've found some good flavors.

I really like my KGO. You'll learn in time that the Provari is the Cadillac of PV's but buy the time you add in everything I think in my personal opionion you'll be way over your $200.

1.5 Boge or Smoketech cartomizers work very well with the KGO as does the tank of that ohm. I think that provides the best vape. I'm new too. This set up has helped me kick a 1.5pad Newport habit. I have tried the Dekang juices from Hoosier, the tobacco non menthol help quite a bit. I don't like their prefilled cartomizers. My favorite juice right now is the Backwoods Brew juice, from that company. Pinkspot is expensive and its good too.

I'm new, but I've learned a whole lot real quick, and if I can be of help let me know. Great success to you!

Enchanted, Nansc, and Zooker,

Thanks for the welcome, it's appreciated. I'm looking to get away from Cartomizers and right into E-Juice. I recently picked up a ....ty "Krave It" from Rite Aid. $10.00 but it will hold me off until I can pick up something a little nicer. But seriously, help me out. I'm kinda hooked on the Provari and Golden Greeks. I really like the all metal, digital display, vairable settings and stuff. But I'm kinda loss on the tanks and different tips and such. If someone could go through what I should get, and possible E-Juices to try out it'd be appreciated. This Krave It is harsh on my throat and tastes more like burning S'Mores' than an actual cigarette.

I would suggest forgoing a variable voltage for the moment. Get ahold of a high quality fixed voltage mod and experiment with the different cartomizer, tanks and juices. For the first few months, that will be where you drop the most money. People can tell you what they do, or what they're for, but you can't really know unless you try them. Choosing a PV is the easy part. Finding your favorite cartomizer or tank system is harder. Finding your favorite juice is the hardest.

I may be wrong, but doesnt a GG take a particular kind of special rebuildable atomizer? If so, you may want to wait on that one unless you're confident in your ability to tinker while you get off analogs for good. It's a high quality piece of work, for sure, but check out any limitations it might have, in respect to what attachments it accepts. very carefully.

My personal recommendation for a bulletproof PV is a Silver Bullet. You cannot kill the thing. Run it over with a truck, bury it in sand, dunk it in the ocean... I've done them all and it still kicks ..... The switch is a commercial vandal-resistant million cycle design. You can use a std. 3.7V battery, or stack batteries (protected, of course) for 6 or 7.4V. Or, you can use a 4.8V NiMh. It will make a fine backup unit for a Provari, should you decide to get one of those later. As good as a Provari is, you can still lose or break it. You always want a reliable backup. The Silver Bullet takes an 18650 sized battery. A 3100mah Panasonic is about $12 and will last you 2 or 3 days between charges.

Spend your time and money to start checking out cartos, tanks, juice, etc. Then, when you get a VV, you'll know what to use it with for the best results. It's a rule of experimentation to limit variables. A good fixed voltage machine will let you do that and not waste a ton of cash and money trying to figure out exactly what is causing what.

Over the edge...
Welcome to ECF. Whatevr PV you get, since you don't like the taste of "burning S'Mores', I can recommend a couple of juices to you. Flue Cured from www.ave.com is smoth tobacco with no b.s. It's all VG so that should tame the harshness on your throat. Another is Sweet Caroline from iVape Electronic Cigarettes, Personal Vaporizers, E-cigarette Kits, E-liquids, Juices, Mods and accessories - all of your vaping needs shop online or at our location in Longs SC. Tobacco with a touch of honey. 60/40 PG/VG mix.

So there really isn't any good, name brand PV out there? I've gone to the stores and checked out Drip E-Cigs that look like volcano's but run under a different name? I guess I'm just "Lost in the Sauce" on these things as they've changed drastically since I've last picked one up. Many of the bars where I live have gone smokeless, and I'm not too keen on letting my drink sit solo on the pub counter if I even wanted a smoke.

I guess I'm a little confused (or drunk (probably both)) on what the different voltages mean. I just see the Provari as being the best, but I guess I just get confused.

Perhaps if someone can recommend me to a good all around website to purchase these things from, an actual starter kit and some popular flavors that'd be great. I hate enlisting people to do the research for me, but I'm sure there are some Veterans on here (Military and Non-Military Vapers) that know for sure. I need something that will survive the sands of the Middle East but also provide the most vapor and flavor, durability and looks. I'm not in the market for something cheap or a complete rip-off.

Also, is there a portion of the forum that people sell used vapes on here? I think if I were to buy a new one, a used one might be a better option.

What you have been using have had pre-filled cartridges. E-juice is used with cartomizers that you buy empty. A cartomizer is a combination of a cartridge and an atomizer. In the old days, we used to use a mouthpiece (cartridge) that held the juice, and a separate atomizer, that heated it. A lot of min-ecig companies call their pre-filled cartomizers cartridges. That causes a lot of confusion.

There are "tanks" that work like the old cartridges, but hold more juice. They're used with separate atomizers and are usually proprietary, meaning you need their atomizer to work with their tank. The eGo-T is an example of this effort to revive the old cartridge/atomizer system.

Nowadays, most people use a cartomizer, either by itself or inserted into a large tank that holds between 3 and 5ml of juice. There are also "clearomizers". They are similar to a cartomizer, but have no filling to hold the juice. It is just held in a loose liquid form and fed to the coil by means of a wick. The advantage is that there is no filler (polyester batting) to burn and it produces a cleaner taste. The disadvantages include more "dry hits" when the wicking can't keep up with the vaper and fails to provide enough juice to the coil. They also cost more and some have a habit of leaking.

This gets back to what I suggested before. Get a good, solid, fixed voltage PV with a 510 connector. The 510 connector is the most flexible and versatile and more attachments are built with a 510 connector than any other. Then, get a variety of different cartomizers, atomizers and tanks in various resistances, from 1.5 to 3 ohms. Then, spend your shopping time finding a good juice you like. Most people overlook that part, but it's probably the most important thing.

By PV, if you mean something that looks like a cigarette, there are just a few. But they have serious limitations and the certainly are not something I'd want to rely on in the desert sands.

The quality of your vape depends on, among other things, the wattage produced by your PV. That's where the voltage and resistance come in. The higher the voltage of your battery, and the lower the resistance of your coil (in the cartomizer or atomizer) the warmer your vapor will be. Sometimes, it is too hot and harsh and wipes out the flavor.

Most big battery models (don't look like a cigarette) provide from 3.4 to 3.7 volts. The battery is 4.2volts right off the charger, but doesn't stay there for too long.

A Provari set at 3.7 volts, with a 1.5ohm cartomizer won't taste a bit different than any other PV at 3.7 volts with that same cartomizer. All a variable voltage PV does is to allow you to change voltage "on the fly" without changing your cartomizer. Turn up the voltage, and the vapor gets warmer. Turn it down and it gets weaker and cooler.

With a fixed voltage PV, you change cartomizers. You find out a juice tastes best with a low resistance carto or a higher resistance carto.

For a variable voltage device, the Provari is one of the two best. But what I'm suggesting is to get a fixed voltage PV. Get one that is tough, reliable and takes a large battery that you won't need to recharge every few hours.

If you go to the Altsmoke/Silver Bullet forum in the vendors section, or the Silver Bullet forum in the Device section of ECF, you will see people's opinion of their Silver Bullet, or the smaller Baby Bullet. They're about $85 from Altsmoke. When you get your post count up, you can go to Altsmoke's forum and talk to the engineer and designer personally if you have any questions about the device. If you want to see it, it is sold on Altsmoke.com

So what is a good website to purchase a 510 kit, cartomizer, atomizer, tank and e-Juice from. I originally came from V2's which were the 2 to 1 deals, but provided the ability to help me quit. Just need some help, excuse me if I'm sounding like a nub but the clear tanks just are eye catching for me.

Some PV's are called 510s. Don't confuse them with the thread designation 510. You might have to go to a couple sites, to get everything you need. Start at Altsmoke.com Look at the Silver Bullet or the Baby Bullet. You can also get cartomizers there. Rule of thumb is that the best juice comes from a different place than the best hardware. Tanks are cool. The best tanks are on a completely different site. I would look at "Whose your daddy" tanks. They're about the absolute best for a tank that is readily available. You'll have to google that one. I believe the site is BigDaddyVaping or something like that.

If you want more detailed info, PM me and I'll be glad to walk you through some of this.

Hey Smooth_Operator, I am going to do my best to try and help you out. Although new to the forum I have been vaping since 2009 and have learned alot along the way. So here it goes:

There are atomizers and cartomizers, both work off the same principle but are very different. Atomizers are basically just the heating coil which vaporizes the E-juice into vapor. Typically the tip or mouth piece (cart) is what holds the fluid, and they don't hold very much fluid at all. Most people that use atomizers will "direct drip" as opposed to using the tips with the fluid because the performance is better (vapor, flavor, throat hit). The down fall to this is you need to have a bottle of juice with you to drip a few drops in every time it starts to run out. There are mods out there that will feed juice into the atomizer from below but I would not jump right into one of those right away, there is a learning curve.

Cartomizers is basically the atomizer and cart (tip that holds E-juice) all in one unit. They have come a long way from what they used to be and provide great vapor, flavor, and throat hit. At least for me personally that is. I would recommend using these for your situation because they are much easier to use and work really well. I use Boge cartomizers myself and have never had any issues, I usually purchase them from CrystalClearVaping.com and they either Low Resistance (2.0 ohm) or Regular resistance (3.0 ohm) to choose from. Oh and just do a youtube search for filling cartomizers and there a tons of videos showing you how to do this.

Now the resistance or ohms of the cartomizer will reflect what voltage you would vape it at. The lower the ohms - the less resistance to current in the heating coil. Basically low resistance came about so people could get a high voltage vaping experience on a standard 3.7 volt battery. You can go higher than 3.7 volts on a low resistance cartomizer, I usually rock them at 4 volts or so on my provari. Now if you wanted to go higher in volts you want a higher resisted atomizer or cartomizer, so if you are interested in trying that out definitely get some standard cartomizers.

I own a provari and absolutely love it, wouldn't trade it for anything in the world. It is in my opinion worth every penny I spent on it and built like a brick .... house. I have dropped the thing so many times on concrete and it stills works just fine. The Functions that it gives you are:

1) The ability to adjust your voltage to what you want depending on what your using
2) The ability to check the ohms of your atomizer or cartomizer
3) The ability to check the level of your battery
4) The ability to turn the device on or off so it wont fire in your pocket

Those are the main features that it gives you as well as circuit protection and battery protection so you wont over discharge your battery and cause a possible battery failure. If money isnt an object then I feel you cant go wrong with the provari.

And last but certainly not least, E-juice. There are many good E-juice vendors and you can find many of them here on the ecf. Taste is subjective so its hard to tell you or give an idea of what to go with but I will give you the vendors I use on a regular basis:

1) JuicyVapor.com
2) Rawrvapor.com
3) TheVaporRoom.net

I'm sorry this is so long but I just wanted to try and cover everything for you and make it as clear as possible. I hope this helps and if you have more questions you can pm me.

Hi smooth operator! You can check out the classified ads in the forums. There are some good buys there sometimes. Just click on what's new on the browser bar and then on today's classified posts. You need to get verified before you buy or sell. The info on that is in the new member's pages. Good luck. Oh, it sounds like your cigar shop guy was selling some sort of lava tube.
