My name is Jeremy, I'm 29 years old, and I've been vaping since summer, I think. I don't recall the exact month. I smoked about 2/3 pack of cigarettes daily. On a heavy night out with friends, I could smoke 2 packs.
I had quit smoking once before, but it only lasted a few months. Over time, I realized I had more of an oral fixation than an addiction to nicotine. Although, I certainly don't doubt that my body had become accustomed to nicotine, I just never felt like I couldn't quit.
When I started vaping, it was because I was interested in the health benefits. However, I did not TRY to quit smoking. I didn't want to "quit" anything. I liked smoking. Still do. I simply decided I would try vaping and then see which one I picked up more often: the ecig or the "analog" cigarette.
Two weeks in (and after having received both my Blu and my eGo-T) I stopped choosing cigarettes, completely. I bought sample packs from Johnson Creek and Halo and I bought several other individual e-liquids from a variety of other vendors including Ms. T's Bakery, DFW, and MyFreedomSmokes (whom I also purchased my eGo kit from because they had a great price and they're local to me).
I thought my first ecig purchase was a waste of $35. I then realized that if I REALLY didn't like it at all, I would've just continued smoking. It was a PureSmoke, starter kit, if I recall properly. The vapor was decent, but the flavors were terrible. I figured I'd better do some research and "get my learn on" about ecigs.
This forum has been very valuable to me as a source of information and user experiences. I haven't posted anything previously because: 1. I had answered most of my n00b questions by searching and I couldn't really think of much to share and... 2. I was never compelled to post anything in the New Members forum, as most of the threads I was reading were in other forums.
So, I just wanted to share this in the hopes that it might be useful to others. I didn't "quit" smoking- I just stopped. I've taken a couple draws of my girlfriend's cigarette on a couple of occasions, but the taste became bad after the first two weeks of only vaping. I recently tried a Chinese cigarette the other day. I had no reserve about trying it (it was so "light", it was almost like vaping). I don't have the desire to smoke cigarettes regularly, but I also don't feel like I'm "cheating" if I decide to take a few puffs now and then.
I figure, if I didn't vape, I'd just smoke. It has nothing to do with health, only that it is something I enjoy. I would do it until I couldn't anymore because that's just how I look at life. If you can't do what you enjoy, there's not much to live for. I used to only by "my brand" of smokes and if I couldn't afford them, I didn't buy cheaper cigarettes, I just didn't smoke.
Everyone's experience is unique- not just vaping - everything. I know people who really cannot quit smoking. I know people who have tried numerous times to quit and ultimately continued smoking. "Quitting" has a certain stigma about it. Like when you tell me I can't do something and it makes me want to do it that much more.
Vaping has replaced my cigarette use. I don't know exactly for how long and it isn't really important to me. I only vape in smoking areas and I try to be discreet. I don't feel as though I have any privileges that smoker's don't. I don't need to vape everywhere- I never needed to smoke everywhere.
People tend to ask me what it is that I'm using and I'm happy to explain it to them.
So, here I am writing this, enjoying my brand spankin' new ProVari (black chrome w/ blue led and 18650 extension) which I found in the mail earlier today. It's my first high voltage pv and hopefully it will last a long time. Can't wait for the lightsaber upgrade..
Thanks for reading this (especially if you made it this far) and feel free to comment or ask questions.
I would be interested in learning of some other people's favorite juices - the ones I've been enjoying the most are Crystal and Lasso from GotVapes and Halo's Tribeca. So, if you also like those flavors I'd be even more interested to know what else you like.
Cheers!
