This works great as 'quick fix', if you work doing construction work or other hard labor job, and just want to throw your Chuck in your work pouch or pocket without having the switch getting pressed.
My husband used a 1/2" .rubber grommet(rubber type thick washer) which is about 3/16" thick and placed it around the nut, so the switch is surrounded by it, and then wrapped electrical tape around it and the Chuck to secure it.
Works great! Also protects the switch, in case it gets dropped onto a hard surface, it protects it like a bumper.
It won't turn on unless you press in the center, where the switch is. Still simple to press, which is nice, but has to pressed in the right spot to work, since the switch has to be completely depressed to activate, the rubber protects it from accidentally getting depressed and risk burning up atty's/carts, lol.
Works perfectly, he did several tests to try to get the switch to depress, and nothing activated it, since you have press the switch hidden in the center of the washer/grommet.
His Chuck has black on the top, and you can bearly tell it's on there. Which he said he wouldn't care how it looked, long as it wasn't getting activated while he's working and accidentally burning up atty's.
Electrical tape does come in quite a few different colors, (get the stretchy kind so you can wrap it good and tight)
Here is a picture of a similar grommet (the smallest one in the picture) Rubber Grommet Kit, Desk Cable Grommets, Rubber Bushings .The one he used is a little smaller hole in the center, but I know the hard ware store has all kinds of sizes, lol.
anything that is thick with a hole in the center, that is strong and hard to depress would work. Even if you didn't have one that thick, you could put 2 or 3 together and make it work.
the one he's using, is more rounded, it shaped just exactly like a doughtnut, just found it in a drawer, and it fit, lol
Whatever the type/shape a person might want to try or use, as long as it prevents things from pressing the switch down, is all that counts. =)
