Since I don't know squat about electronics, I'm wondering...

If the switch needs cleaning, how do you know?
--The Chuck no longer works?
--There is reduced vapor output?

I guess what I want to know is whether or not this is an all-or-nothing deal...
--If it needs cleaning, do you figure that out from reduced vapor?
--Or if it stops working, do you clean it and hope that fixes it?

I've had to clean mine twice now and I'm contemplating contacting Jeff. Does he send switches to people who are confident at soldering?

IDK, I do know I started to take my Chuck apart and became concerned about damaging the finish and sent my Chuck to Jeff. Everyone says his CS can't be beat and as long as you have a back up it seems the best way to go.

If the cleaning does not do it....then there's something else you can try if you know how to solder.
Most of the chucks that break down have a weak soldering point.
Look where your atomizer screws on.
Look inside the threads, theres a circle (center post) . That circle is the positive voltage.
Pry that middle part out and you will see that under it is a loose wire. You need to resolder the wire to the center post.
Ocasionally a switch will also go bad, in which case you have to send it back to Jeff for repair, because i have no clue which switch he uses.

I sent my chuck off, Jeff should have received it on Monday (5/2/11). Along with it I sent a note asking if the switches he uses are the same C & K Components 8552MZQE2 that MadVapes sells. I'll keep everyone here posted when I get my chuck back and his response.

I've tried both now and I haven't seen much difference.

Does the contact cleaner work better than rubbing alcohol?

I've cleaned mine a few times with alcohol, but now it's going bad within a day after I clean it. Would it work better if I used contact cleaner, or do I have to break down and send it back (again)?

I'm scared to death of putting rubbing alcohol in my Chuck, but I put batteries in her this morning and my carto turned on by itself. Fiddling with the switch it turned off but when I hit the switch again she stayed on by herself. I had to take the batteries out for her to turn off. I've had her since December 09, will this fix it ya think? :)

The alcohol, from what I could tell, does nothing more than clean any .... from the button itself, which can affect it firing/not firing. Nothing to do with the connection, more to do with if you just get the button dirty due to work, being outside etc etc. Ex. Lost a chuck, it was outside in dirt and rain for a week, cleaned out the button, was outside full of bug spray barn dirt etc.
It won't fixed a damaged connection. I am surprised that out of the five/six we've had I only had one bad switch, only surprised because my chucks have hit the ground so many times and it is always a big thud since it hits concrete etc.

If you think about it, the buttons are not really that bad. These get a bad rap but I've seen people get their undies in a bunch regarding button placement and graphics. Button is small as to not interfere with graphics.
Recently I had to order a small mod for my hubs because he needed something small/lightweight etc (killed me, it really did) and I was amazed because nothing carries the fantastic warranty that Jeff provides. So basically if the thing ends up not working five months down the road I am sol. That is high marks in my book and something people should remember when giving reviews.

As I said I've had her since December 09, year and a half? I haven't sent her back, not once, she's been to hell and back too. I'm surprised the buttons still going. Guess there's no harm in trying the alcohol, I suppose after thaat amount of time with never having cleaned inside it, I'm sure it's full of crap!
